Our idea of mobility is changing. The dream of vehicle ownership has turned into a desire for shared mobility concepts, shifting the car industry’s focus from product to user, driver to passenger, travel to journey, experience to exploration. Quoting Audi, moving means meeting change. It questions the familiar, embraces the unknown until it outstrips the power of our imagination. If mobility is a constant encounter with everything that is new, how can its physical space act in the same way?

L'Atelier opened its doors this past April with the objective of surprising the city of Barcelona, and it has certainly delivered. The IDEO Architectura studio was commissioned to create this concept and make it into a reality. L'Atelier – now a true jewellery case – is a space where pastry, school and bakery coexist at 140 bis Calle Viladomat.

Based on the need to expand the existing jewelry store and maintain the merge of two adjacent spaces the project consists of minimalistic and pure lines.
Considering the in-between wall as a fact that cannot be reversed, the three dimensional black L-shape structure becomes the focal point that flows through the otherwise white interior, guides the eyesight through the space and connects the two rooms.
Two categories of products are to be distinguished and equally displayed: the Swarovski jewelry, figurines, ornaments etc. and every other kind of jewelry someone can wish for in a jewelry store. Two types of display areas are used. Vertical / wall display areas and horizontal / table display areas, that provide equal and quality observation of the offered goods of all types.
The project was developed in 7400 m2 comprising of two levels and the basement of an already existing structure, our proposal was centered around the remodelling and refunctionalization of the different spaces of the future concessionary; accepting the challenge of, through wise design and election of materials, reflecting the spirit of Toyota's brand.
Concept
The essence of the project defines its spaces by means of guiding axis, a great wall coated in ACM. The lights' apertures in the ceiling, together with the lines of light of the wall, both bring dynamism and create tension in the space, marking the road to the brand's future goals.
