Formentera Water Sports Center in Spain by Marià Castelló

Wednesday, March 18th, 2020

Article source: Marià Castelló

The port of La Savina is the main point of access to Formentera island. Its important geographical location makes it the border between an urban area, the Mediterranean Sea and a saltwater lake which forms part of Ses Salines Natural Park. Giving protection to the open sea, this lake has traditionally been used as a natural harbor to anchor small fishing boats. And, currently, the administration has deemed it suitable to house the municipal sailing school as well as other nautical sports and activities.

The functional program offered a duality (classrooms + offices versus workshop + dressing rooms) that has divided the volumetry into two independent parts aligning the first one with Almadrava Street and the second one with the passage of Balandra. At the intersection of both streets, the building offers an empty space with its visual permeability that incorporates the main access to the equipment. Between the two described volumes, there is a structure that provides a chill-out zone in the shadow and with its oblique geometry invites to enjoy the amazing views opening towards Estany des Peix.

The canoeing base in Augustów was established in 2019 as the implementation of the winning concept of the architectural competition settled in 2016. The competition task was to create a concept for a water sports center – a canoeist base – and the overall development of the neighboring recreational areas. The investment has been divided into several stages. The canoeing base is the first of them. Finally, the new development of Błonie on the Netta River is still to be built, including a multifunctional sports field, pumptrack, playground and places for citizens and tourists to get some rest.

New Construction Of A Triple Sports Hall Of The Wettingen Canton School in Switzerland by mlzd

Friday, October 11th, 2019

Article source: mlzd

The Cistercian monastery in Wettingen is a cultural monument of national importance. When the cantonal school moved into the monastery premises in 1979, the school’s sports hall with a swimming pool was constructed on the common land outside the monastery area. To maintain the historical view of the monastery, the sports hall and swimming pool were built underground, around a deep courtyard with longitudinal sides that provided the adjoining gymnasiums with daylight. The planned extension of the sports halls is also required to adhere to this principle and is thus being developed underground.

Qiyun Mountain Camp in Huangshan, China by LOT-EK

Thursday, October 10th, 2019

Article source: LOT-EK

The Qiyun Mountain Camp is a large natural adventure and extreme sport park in China. It is located by the Qiyun Mountain, a beautiful natural and sacred site as the birthplace of Taoism and the yin and yang symbol. We designed all the public services within the pristine natural setting of the park. Shipping containers are cut on a bias to generate the base units of the various buildings. They are joined, mirrored, tilted and recombined to fit the several programs and to make up new typologies. Three different areas are carefully inserted in the landscape considering the varying topography and are color-coded to create detectible landmarks within the natural setting.

Thursday, September 19th, 2019

Article source: INK Architects

The Covered Athletics Complex, designed by INK Architects for the BI Group, locates on a 10 ha land lot between streets of Turan and Bukhar-Zhyrau in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. The arena is expected to be completed by early 2020. It is going to be the second stadium suitable for the Olympic games in the country after ‘Olga Rypakova’s Athletics Center’ in Ust-Kamenogorsk. The core project objective is to create a sports centre that would integrate into the existing context, contribute to training athletes in an environment close to the Olympics Games, attracting talents to the sport, and promote a healthy lifestyle among the citizens.

The project is sited within the cluster of sports centres such as hockey arena “Barys”, football stadium “Astana Arena”, ice stadium “Alau”, cycle track “Saryarka”, and a wrestling centre completing soon. Being next to existing sports centres helps to reduce the environmental impact by sharing infrastructure and facilities. The venues could also be used as concert halls, events centre, and convention centres in the future, ensuring a long-lasting and sustainable neighbourhood development.
