La Fontaine Multisports Complex in Antony, France by archi5

Monday, March 4th, 2019

Article source: archi5

archi5 was founded in 2003, the fruit of its founders’ common agency experience and the approach they share to architecture.

A context-based approach to projects is key : the site, the programme, the social and cultural challenges are all examined, analyzed and compared. These data are then transformed into questions.

The projects offer a dynamic and comprehensive response to those issues to the highest standard that has come to be archi5’s trademark.

Sports Hall in Kuřim, The Czech Republic by CUBOID ARCHITEKTI s.r.o.

Sunday, December 16th, 2018

Article source: CUBOID ARCHITEKTI s.r.o.

The sports hall is another piece in the mosaic of a gradually expanding sports complex in Kuřim. Since the sports arena is approximately in the centre of this promising area, the architects strove to design a building whose look reflects its purpose: it is a playful and eye-catching building that will become the symbol of the entire complex. Our design was selected after winning an international architectural competition in 2009.

Quzhou Sports Campus in China by MAD Architects

Wednesday, November 21st, 2018

Article source: MAD Architects

The “Quzhou Sports Campus” designed by MAD Architects, led by Ma Yansong, has just broken ground in the historic city of Quzhou, in China’s eastern coastal province of Zhejiang. Spanning almost 700,000 square meters, the first and second phase have a total construction area of approximately 340,000 square meters, and include a stadium (30,000 seats), gymnasium (10,000 seats), natatorium (2,000 seats), national sports complex, outdoor sports venue, science & technology museum, hotel accommodations, youth centre and retail programs. MAD’s design embeds the functions of the sports park within natural forms, creating an earth-art landscape in the center of the city – a poetic landscape that falls somewhere between that of Earth and Mars. “We dream not only of creating an urban space about sports and ecology, but also turning it into a unique land art park for the world, establishing a relationship between the city’s heritage and history of Shanshui culture,” says Ma Yansong.

Aljada Central Hub in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates by Zaha Hadid Architects

Monday, November 19th, 2018

Article source: Zaha Hadid Architects

Arada has announced Phase One of the Central Hub in Sharjah will complete in the first quarter of next year. The focal point of the US$6.5 billion Aljada development in Sharjah, the Central Hub by Zaha Hadid Architects is a new leisure and entertainment destination for the UAE that defines Aljada’s role as a transformational project for Sharjah.

The Central Hub’s design conceptualises the first moment a water droplet strikes the earth’s surface, captured in an array of elliptical buildings that are designed to channel prevailing winds into public spaces and courtyards to aid natural cooling.

Arada’s commitment to sustainability and smart technologies is integrated within the Central Hub. The complex’s natural ecosystem, irrigated by recovered and recycled water, is designed to sustain a microclimate at ground level for gardens featuring plant species native to the region, while the Central Hub’s lighting requirements will be entirely provided by smart solar power.

More than 25 football fields in size (1.9 million square feet), the car-free Central Hub is focussed around its large central plaza and public observation tower.

Article source: BIG-BJARKE INGELS GROUP

The new East Austin District is an entirely new sports and entertainment neighborhood tailored to celebrate world-class sports and cultural experiences under one checkered roofscape. Located at the site of Rodeo Austin, the 1.3 million sf East Austin District is a world of worlds for sports fans, music festival-goers and adventurists, capturing the distinct spirit of Austin with the city’s first pro-sports stadium and large-scale music arena. Inspired by local vernaculars including the Jefferson Grid, the individual buildings in East Austin District are arranged as a checkerboard of different functions, appearing as a latticed roofscape from above. Offering more than protection, the rooftop covered in red photovoltaic panels could someday allow the self-sufficient district to share its energy resources community-wide—powering East Austin’s electricity and economy.

Marine Sports Base, Marine Navigation Sports School in Shenzhen, China by Beijing Institute of Architectural Design

Tuesday, October 30th, 2018

Article source: Beijing Institute of Architectural Design

The total construction area of the whole project is only 27180m2, but the function is numerous and the ground level of the site is highly variable. For this, we put forward the design principle of “minimum the effect to the environment”. Through the site analysis, we divided buildings into many small parts combined with functional partition, and arranged the buildings along the harbour and mountain, and ensure the buildings all can have a good view of the landscape and good ventilated condition and  good day lighting. At the same time, the water design of water tank and the floating pier are used to minimize the impact of the natural environment in the basin. Artificial architectural forms integrate into the site environment in a natural way, forming a rhythmic building ecological community.

The Atlantic Pavilion in Viana do Castelo, Portugal by VALDEMAR COUTINHO ARQUITECTOS

Wednesday, October 17th, 2018

Article source: VALDEMAR COUTINHO ARQUITECTOS

The building is situated next to “Avenida do Atlântico” in Viana do Castelo. An avenue facing the sea, in which a series of buildings are constructed, which, on a first impression, the urban front, in which the building is inserted, transmits a rather insipid image due to the nature of the programs and options taken in its projects. A characteristic which has become an asset in the conceptualization of the project of the Atlantic Pavilion.

Besides the necessity of the City Council of Viana do Castelo having a sports pavilion, it gives support to the EB 2,3 Pedro Barbosa School and for complementarity use by the community to develop various modalities, it is mainly adjacent in the county’s objectives, to expand the population’s possibility of practising sports activities in covered facilities.
