SUNCHEON ART PLATFORM in South Korea by Daniel Valle Architects

Wednesday, March 15th, 2017

Article source: Daniel Valle Architects

Suncheon Bay is famous for its natural sceneries. The privileged location in the junction of the Dong and Isa streams is house of the widest reed bed in South Korea. Among the world’s wetlands, Suncheon Bay is widely known for attracting the largest number of rare birds. Suncheon Bay represents the best of the region and has been always the epicenter of tourism.

We would like to propose for the Suncheon Art Platform competition an urban reinterpretation of the natural sceneries of Suncheon Bay.  We wish to connect the collective memory of the bay with a new cultural and urban life in the city center of Suncheon where Culture and Nature become the raw materials to fabricate a new creative platform for citizens to enjoy and express themselves.

Gymnase Jean Gachet in Saint-Étienne, France by LiNk Architectes

Thursday, March 2nd, 2017

Article source: LiNk Architectes

Between city center and boulevard, the gymnasium is part of a global project of urban requalification.

The program imposes the creation of a void where sports activities (sports field and climbing wall) will take place. This vacuum imposed by the sporting uses draws from the outset the volumetric draft of the project which is summed up with a regular parallelepiped implanted along the boulevard. From this constraint, the project seeks to radiate beyond its own physical limits. The urban scale then becomes the means of punctuating the main volume and anchoring it in the site and in the city. It is through urban windows that the building directs, locates, and articulates this new urban project in the city. These windows are voluntarily out of scale, and are expressed by point stretches of the main volume. Focusing on existing urban and landscape events (garden, large Sequoia, crassier), they become a pretext for opening views and favoring natural light. The use of extruded aluminum on the façade contributes to the moderation of the building’s mass by means of changes in color, light, and volume perception.

Oslo Skatehall in Norway by DARK Arkitekter AS

Friday, February 17th, 2017

Article source: DARK Arkitekter AS

Skateboarding was banned in Norway on 1 September 1978, with the intention of preventing serious accidents. This did not discourage the skateboarders, and the skateboarding scene grew steadily. When the ban was lifted in 1989 the interest exploded. Skateboarders went from being lawbreakers to celebrities and youth idols. In January 2017, 28 years after the ban was lifted, Oslo finally got its own custom-built venue for the today a well-established sport. Oslo Skatehall stands now as the best custom-designed skatepark, and one of the largest of its kind in northern Europe.

Les Closiaux in Clamart, France by Dominique Coulon & associés

Thursday, January 12th, 2017

Article source: Dominique Coulon & associés

The building is located in a 1950s residential area in the Paris suburbs. The large sports hall is positioned at the far end of the site, giving the street a degree of amplitude and generating a public space which reinforces the building’s status as a community facility. The volume of the accommodation is in keeping with the houses in the neighbourhood. The fragmentation of the programmes produces a displacement between the two volumes, offering glimpses of the central part of the site and opening up views towards the gardens.

Banker Wire Mesh Outfits State-of-the-Art Indoor Soccer Stadium in Montréal, Canada

Friday, December 2nd, 2016

Article source: Banker Wire

Built in the center of one of Montréal’s most diverse neighborhoods, the Stade de Soccer de Montréal is a new visual and cultural symbol in the city. Utilizing custom-fabricated Banker Wire mesh partitions around its indoor playing field, the stadium provides tens of thousands of soccer players with a first-class practicing and playing environment.

The design of the Stade de Soccer de Montréal pays homage to and blends in with its surrounding landscape – a former quarry now being turned into what will be the largest urban park in Montréal. Outside, the stadium shows its versatility as a structure built around the topography, not despite it.

Article source: Picharchitects

It is the extension of the Teresianas School of the c/ Ganduxer.

Because of its heritage value, the passage of time and the various education reforms, the school has been left without enough classroom space and recreational covered areas.

The new extension re-locates all grades and provides the school with new covered sports space with the necessary infrastructure to provide a service to the school and extracurricular activities.

Saturday, September 24th, 2016

Article source: Siebold Nijenhuis Architecten

The newly build multifunctional accommodation (MFA) Zichtwei is the closing piece of the education campus in Barendrecht (just South of Rotterdam). The term MFA is commonly used in The Netherlands for a combination of occupants sharing one multi-functional building. In the MFA Zichtwei two schools are sharing the available class rooms, a sports hall is included and a youth center occupies offices and an event space. The sports hall is daily occupied by the school and can also be used by neighborhood associations during evenings as a separate entrance is designed.

KuBe House of Culture and Movement in Frederiksberg, Denmark by MVRDV and ADEPT

Friday, September 23rd, 2016

Article source: MVRDV

Today Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark will open the Ku.Be House of Culture and Movement, an activity hub in Frederiksberg, Denmark, which explores the boundaries between culture, health and movement. The project, designed by MVRDV and ADEPT, is the first of its typology; a community space which also focuses on exploring and developing our most fundamental process, movement. Ku.Be facilitates both fixed, and spontaneous programmes. Main volumes define specific tempos of activities, whereas voids are left without a defined use to let users interpret them how they wish and discover new ways to use and get around the building. The activity from inside then spills out into the community as a garden which will offer a variety of interactive environments.

Sport Hall Enoseis in Saint Thonan, France by ENO architectes

Friday, June 24th, 2016

Article source: ENO architectes

Get to the point, minimal sport hall : simple program and tight budget.
The problem is clear from the beginning of the story : build an ambitious fitness gym with few ways.
Here, no stylistic device, no free graphic effect and, all in all, nothing exceptional.
The common sense, and only the common sense, as the line of conduct of conception.
