Saturday, November 26th, 2011

Article source: Roberto Ferreira & Arquitectos Asociados

The shape of the stadium is determined by the intersection, the collision of two circles.  It is a stadium with two centers, two sectors entering into conflict, and the design features the architectural resolution of this conflict.  Its shape thus symbolizes the relationship between the two clubs, which share the field of play without losing their individual identities.

Project description

— Bold silver letters with a soccer ball printed on the main facade announce the building’s function

— A black canopy signals the building’s entrance along Papineau Avenue for cars, cyclists and pedestrians

— A 10 meter wide boardwalk along the front facade creates a link between sidewalk and main entrance

— A symmetrical plan organizes all functions and helps the building assert its public role

— A double height square entrance hall distributes the public along interior circulations axes and creates a link with the bleachers above

— The fully glazed back facade offers an unobstructed view on the landscape of the former quarry

— The wood structure brings warmth to this otherwise non combustible construction

— Peripheral glazing at ground level create a link with adjoining landscape

— The stadium simple form makes it stand out from its context

— The building plays on the contrast between black exterior and wood interior

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

This is a remodeling project of the club stadium of the Bulgarianfootball club CSKA Sofia to meet Category four of UEFA stadium standards. It mainly includes a new addition of a visor roof over the existing 22,000 seats. The visor roof can be executed in metal sheathing or lightweight translucent tensioned membranes. The original structure was built in 1923 over dirt banks in the middle of Knyaz Boris’ Garden – the central park in Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria. The last substantial remodel was completed in 1967.

Estádio Municipal de Paredes in Mouriz, Portugal by Spaceworkers

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

Article source: Spaceworkers

Countering a trend of the current stadium, enclosing its green area inside, was what motivated us in finding this solution. The idea of “giving back” an acre of green space to the town was the main motto for this project. A solid block, which levitates into the landscape. A building which you can see and lets those who pass by see it, too. An open space to the city where football is the main entertaining agent.

SuperStadium in Harbin, China by Alan S Lu

Friday, August 5th, 2011

Article source: Alan S Lu

SuperStadium is a proposal for an Olympic complex for Harbin’s bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics that seeks to integrate the multitude of Olympic arenas and villages into one continuous entity, allowing for a seamless transition between programs and events. With the economic burdens of hosting the Olympic games a key issue in the local and global economy, the proposal attempts to inject the current model of sporting arenas with a social and cultural initiative. Thus, the building itself becomes a series of typological layers, with the ground floor programmed as a cultural landscape with libraries, museums, convention halls, and screening rooms.
