The Grid

De Bijenkorf is a luxury department store with seven branches in the Netherlands and part of the British Selfridges Group. i29 interior architects made the design for the new 3500 m2 menswear department on the first floor of the Amsterdam store. Previously i29 and De Bijenkorf worked together on Room on the Roof, an artist in residence in the tower on the Dam Square and the interior of ‘The Kitchen’, the restaurant of De Bijenkorf Utrecht.

The monumental building on the Dam square in the heart of Amsterdam is a national monument. For the major renovation that is going on for some years, the British firm HMKM made a new retail strategy and KAAN architects an architectural vision. The starting point was unveiling the original construction and opening up the façade for more daylight and the connection with the city.

This is a store interior plan that sells furniture, lighting, sundries, clothes and plants.

There are no fixtures in the store and everything placed is a commodity.

I think that the interior of a store that looks like a living space can make commodity look more attractive.

Sunday, July 28th, 2019

Article source: KASAHARA DESIGN WORK.Co.,Ltd

Italiana Tavola D’oro was planned at the restaurant floor of a department store in Ginza.

The site was at the rearmost section of the restaurant floor, and had L-shaped with a narrow front. This meant it was difficult for people to even know the entrance was there.

The theme was how do we make the restaurant interior feel open, bright and easy to see?

Particularly, what was the way to make the appearance of a busy & lively shopfront?

In 2007 when it began providing high quality local organic beef to Vancouver restaurants Two Rivers Meats set up its production facility in a generic warehouse building from the 1950’s situated between the back of the malls and the waterfront industrial area. After becoming a successful restaurant supplier, they decided to start Two Rivers Meats – The Store

Carved out of their ten thousand square foot production facility a space was created to provide high quality ethically raised beef and charcuterie. The concept evolved to include a licensed eat-in kitchen where their meats could be grilled over a wood fire.

Rubio in Valencia, Spain by Masquespacio

Wednesday, July 10th, 2019

Article source: Masquespacio

The interior design agency and consultancy Masquespacio, headed by Ana Milena Hernández and Christophe Penasse, has just finished a significant project in Valencia with the debut of the first concept store for RUBIO, the famed publisher of educational workbooks that have been part of Spanish schoolchildren’s studies for the last 60 years.

This singular project has been one in which Masquespacio has skilfully infused the essence of RUBIO into its flagship store, largely thanks to the sensitivity of its Creative Director, Ana Milena Hernández, who quickly connected with the publisher. “For me, the connection that I’ve made with RUBIO and its CEO Enrique Rubio, who has a special affinity toward art, has been fundamental. In fact, I was already attracted to their image and aesthetics, including the brand colour code, long before meeting them. Their design philosophy is very close to ours,” explains Ana Milena.

A “Cheesy” Feast Appealing to all Senses

In the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory directed by Tim Burton, we witnessed a journey of imagination full of tasty stimulations. Cheese, with its tiny holes and color of yellow, is comparable to the rich and mellow flavor of chocolate. By choosing this delicacy as the main concept to design “The Dessert KITCHEN”, Towodesign produced chemical reactions among food, visual impression and emotion, and created a unique space that provides fantasy experiences.
