Nail it is a nail-art studio located in Jalisco, Mexico.
Making reference to the colorful palette of nail polishing products, the project was designed with a strong palette to create an identity that could be replicated in any commercial space without loosing the feeling of the studio.
Good architecture takes its environment into account, particularly surrounding buildings. In Frankfurt am Main, Franken Architekten has taken a literal approach through a digitally drawn façade for a new home and studio in old town Sachsenhausen.
Frankfurt’s Alt-Sachsenhausen is a neighborhood that, according to the city, urgently needed to change. Until the 1990s, traditional cider houses dominated the area valued for its entertainment and nightlife, but it was heavily run down in recent years. The city created a preservation statute that placed premiums on the conversion of the gastronomy establishments to housing and other uses. A small scene of art galleries, ad agencies, and fashion and designers shops sprung up in the area, leading some people to call the district SoMa (South of Main), inspired by New York’s famous SoHo (South of Houston) area.
Architect Simon Morville and Atelier JS.L are collaborating to address the programme to renovate part of the residential studios of the Ministry of Culture and Communication at the Cité Internationale des Arts, the largest artist residency in France, located on the Quais de Seine in Le Marais in Paris. The layout of these new studios combines everyday life and artistic activity to stimulate the residents thanks to decompartmentalising the functions.
The new two-storey, 410m2 building caters for around 100 young adults and houses two multi-purpose halls, music room and recording studio, café, a series of activity pods and break-out spaces as well as an outside recreation space. The £860,000 project is used by 11-19 year olds during weekday afternoons and evenings and is available to the wider community during the daytime and weekends.
Funding for the building included: Tadley Town Council – £236,000; Public Works Loan – £150,000; Turbury Allotment Charity – £330,000; Greenham Common Trust – £70,800; Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council – £24,090; Local infrastructure Fund – £201,000.
The project for our office reflects our image and values. We are different from other studios and we demonstrate it with this space, which determines how clients perceive our practice.
It is a design that really represent us and makes our office a comfortable, nice and cozy space. These aspects are key as we spend many hours a day there and it influences our well-being.

The studio was designed starting from the conviction that the rooms were to be designed as boxes, composed in turn by sides and surfaces, evocative from a figurative point of view. Two coloured backdrops were in fact made with shades of blue and sage green, on the other side a wall-moodboard with the notes and suggestions of the projects which are work in process. The presence of the old stone portal was resolved by keeping the traces of the old paint, as opposed to the perfection of the bottom of the wall. The old Venetian floorings and the geometric fishbone pattern of the wooden parquet were preserved and enhanced. The furniture arrangement was designed keeping in mind the functional distances and movements in the studio, with a division between the functional and the more operative spaces and the formal reception rooms.
The crossmedia house (built in the 1970is) of the Westdeutscher Rundfunk WDR is located in the historical center of Cologne at the Tunisstrasse. We reduced and arranged the building mass due to a new urban evaluation. The restructuring is based on 637 permanent loft working spaces, arranged around open green atrium. The concept supports everywhere nature light and different zones (working, communication, relaxing) in a high flexible structure.
B.L.U.E. Architecture Studio is an office that fully takes the advantage of natural environment. We renovated the second level of this red brick building which used to be a residential building for an old factory. We used a wall that’s made of red bricks to separate office and meeting room into 2 semi-‐closed space. The circle opening on the wall not only takes away the intense feeling generated by eye contact, but also makes the act of passing items more convenient.
We designed an area for both exhibition and storage on the entire interior wall; and a liner light bulb at top of the wall that knits the whole space into one unit.
