Studio Loft in İzmir, Turkey by Yerce Mimarlık + ZAAS

Sunday, December 16th, 2018

Article source: Yerce Mimarlık + ZAAS

This is the story of the conversion of a regular, standard flat into a photography studio, private house and an art gallery. The apartment is located on a quiet street parallel to a busy boulevard in Alsancak, one of the most densely populated neighbourhoods in Izmir. The brief was to design the ground floor and the upper floor of this apartment which was part of a five storey housing block on this calm and green street, to be used as a photographic studio. During the design process, together with the client it was agreed upon that this place could go beyond being just a photographic studio. Besides meeting the demands of the client who is a well-known photographer in İzmir, who wanted to have a place for his own where he could live and work, the idea of integrating an exhibition area to this space was quickly embraced. While enabling his studio to exhibit and share the photographic work that it produces, this space would also host other photography exhibitions and thus become an alternative art exhibition spot in the city.

Thursday, December 6th, 2018

Article source: Designs Northwest Architects

The Beach Drive Waterfront Studio is a 1,100 square foot hideaway residence situated on the east side of Camano Island, Washington.  The clients have a larger home located across the road from the studio where their extended family gathers during the summer and on holidays.  They utilize this studio when they retire for the evening or wish to entertain close friends on the beach.  The studio encapsulates one space as the kitchen, dining, living and sleeping area is separated by a free-standing double-sided stone fireplace.  Only the master bathroom is a separate room. All of the spaces are oriented toward Port Susan Bay and the Cascade Mountains for spectacular views.

Photographic Studio in Warsaw, Poland by MESS ARCHITECTS

Sunday, December 2nd, 2018

Article source: MESS ARCHITECTS

The interior of this photographic studio is situated in a former factory surrounded by buildings of a similar form and nature. For many years, the building housed a welding workshop. As time went by, its industrial interior required adjustments to make it more suited to the conditions needed for production processes. Welding machinery and metal presses filled up the interior from the floor up to the ceiling. It is clear that throughout the years, the interior of the building has undergone thorough changes in comparison to its initial condition, and the specific type of industrial processes has contributed to its degradation. The east-facing wall of the building, which had been stripped off of practically all windows, was its most damaged part. When the remaining layers of plaster were removed, clear evidence of intervention into the structure of the original wall appeared around the windows. This had doubtlessly been prompted by the technological requirements for the type of machinery used inside.

Drawing Studio in Poole, England by Crab Studio

Friday, November 30th, 2018

Article source: Crab Studio

A belief in the power of Drawing and its central role in artistic creativity is vociferously shared by Stuart Bartholomew, the Vice Chancellor and Head of Arts University Bournemouth and its architect alumnus, Sir Peter Cook. In 2014 Bartholomew invited Cook to design this building, which is dedicated to that pursuit. Cook’s office CRAB (the Cook-Robotham Architecture Bureau) with Jenna Al-Ali as Project Architect have then developed an instrument that is to be used by the students of all of its 17 departments. These range from painting, sculpture and Illustration, through to architecture, costume, drama, and model-making with the result becoming the first such dedicated Drawing Studio as a stand-alone structure to be built in a British art college for more than 100 years.

Hidden Studio in Byron Bay, Australia by Harley Graham Architects

Friday, November 23rd, 2018

Article source: Harley Graham Architects

‘Hidden Studio’ sits amongst the trees on a 20 acre property at Coopers Shoot. This is part of a rural ridgeline that looks over the scoop of ocean that is Byron Bay. The owners, Steve and Colleen, have lived on the property for 22 years. Their existing home and writers cabin on the same property was designed by Ian Mckay, the accomplished ‘Sydney School’ architect who sadly passed away in 2015. We had spent a bit of time with Ian in his later years and the starting point for the design was to respect and learn from the existing structures he had designed on the site. The primary house and writers cabin had a clarity of structure with the repetition of expressed portal frames forming the skeleton for a ‘linear plan’. This informed the beginning of our design process.

República 358 in Brazil by HYPE STUDIO

Thursday, November 8th, 2018

Article source: HYPE STUDIO

The idea of renovating the 1917 townhouse and make it Hype Studio’s new headquarters came in the end of 2015. It seemed like the perfect place to put into practice the concepts we believe and pursue in our work.

It was the opportunity to create a work space integrated with the vibrant urban life of Cidade Baixa, a bohemian neighborhood deeply connected with Hype Studio’s history.

RBA Studio in New Westminster, Canada by Randy Bens Architect

Tuesday, November 6th, 2018

Article source: Randy Bens Architect

Completed in the winter of 2016, this modified shipping container is our new office. The practice was formed in 2005 to focus on small, well-crafted buildings. After working in my home office with one staff member for many years, we decided to expand the practice (a little).

Lifestyle is important to me and my wife, so the decision was made to expand to the back yard rather than to a remote commercial space. The goal was to have the benefits of working from home, while having an independent space for staff, a place to conduct meetings with clients and contractors, and to simply have more room to do our work. The self sufficient building contains a kitchenette, washroom, printer / network cabinet and an open studio space. The small meeting space can be configured in a number of ways, and the table can join the desk for model making.
