The new main building of the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow offers a symbolic and attractive combination of virtually all the symbolisms associated with the museum, including the idea of flying, the atmosphere and structure of an airfield and a passion for the history of technology.
Why build a two-mile high, one mile wide building? To prevent the uncontrolled blight of the natural landscape by rapacious developers and industry. At current rates the surface of the planet will be nearly totally covered with residential, commercial and apartment dwellings within the coming century. Large structures such as these bring nature upward to preserve the natural surroundings and to add natural surroundings in a controlled environment. This two-mile high, trumpet bell-shaped, tension structure is the most stable and aerodynamic shape ever conceived for a tall structure. Its upper level wall thicknesses are the same as the lower level wall thicknesses unlike other structural systems that are extremely tall. It is like a suspension cable bridge stood on end. There are 120 levels to the structure with great heights at each level. The scale of this stucture is such that the entire central district of Beijing could fit into its base. One must not think in terms of floors but, instead, imagine entire landscaped neighborhood districts with “skies” that are 30 to 50 meters high. Lakes, streams, rivers, hills and ravines comprise the soil landscape on which residential, office, commercial, retail and entertainment buildings can be built.
Green Village: A Green Residential Community A Short Walk to Green School
Set within a rural landscape along Bali Ayung’s river, Green Village is a planned community based on design concepts and sustainable principles established by the artisans and craftsmen that built Green School.
GGA’s objective was to create a forward thinking workplace for its business with a new paradigm focused on flexible and collaborative space that would be a contributor of a healthful environment and lifestyle. Expanding on a simple program, GGA designed the 16,000 SF offices without walls to improve communication and collaboration, to encourage learning and sharing of information, and to take advantage of the enormous amount of natural light permeating the perimeter glass walls of the space. The commitment to openness started at the highest level in the organization and therefore the workplace has no private offices. The design culminated in achieving LEED® 2.0 Platinum Certification from USGBC, as the first design office in the Washington, DC area to achieve this distinction.
Located on Minnesota’s vast western prairie, the University of Minnesota, Morris, is a national leader in campus sustainability—through sustainable development and the addition of its own wind power generator and biomass energy plant. This renovation of a two-story, 18,700 square-foot 1915 historic building serves two purposes: to act as a gateway for all visitors (including prospective students, parents, and alumni) and be a centerpiece for the campus’ commitment to sustainable design.

PROPOSAL FOR FARGO, ND: This new downtown destination is a place to congregate, shop, eat, live and work. It also generates its own solar power. The Solar Plaza’s unique sculptural shape, with sweeping solar panel surface and curvaceous wraparound glass, adds a new dimension to the progressive development of renewable resources.

Masdar City is the city of the future; positioned at the forefront of integrating sustainable technology into modern architectural design. Rome, Athens, Florence; most great historical cities have had the plaza, forum, or square at their epicentre – where the life, values, ideals, and vision of the population evolved. Equally, the centre of Masdar must be an iconic beacon that attracts global attention to sustainable technology.

Arizona Medical Education Building Breaks New Ground; Award-Winning Design Exemplifies New, Interdisciplinary Teaching, Research
PHOENIX: The physical manifestation of a new, interdisciplinary approach to health sciences education and research is rising from the flat pans of downtown Phoenix in the form of an architecturally expressive, world-class, sustainable educational facility. Currently under construction, the project recently won a 2010 NEXT LA Citation Award given to “on-the-boards” projects by the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
