Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

What would happen when the ultimate source of energy could be free for all humans, when it could be possible to replace all fossil fuels with   alternative ? In an effort to reduce global climate change, we made a facility which can produce the most rewarding alternative sources of sustainable energy – Hydrogen . As we know hydrogen does not exist alone in nature, and it is a very important element because it can be used as a non-toxic energy storage and transport medium. Hydrogen can provide a promising method to help the World to achieve energy independence, make strides in environmental stewardship, and develop a thriving economy.

BALANCE ARCHITECTURE WITH LIGHT

A challenging project for the most prestigious University in China in the heart of its historical campus

In 2009 a prestigious American Foundation (The Leo KoGuan Foundation) and Beijing University invited Kokaistudios to design the building for the new faculty of law located in a prestigious location within the historical campus of China leading University. This particular site, where the pagoda symbol of the university is standing, required considerable effort in terms of design in order to find architectural answers that could satisfy and meld in a harmonious way the heritage elements; the beautiful natural environment and the new contemporary building. This prestigious project currently under construction and scheduled to be completed in mid 2010 is considered the milestone of a new era for Beijing University, and a symbol for better and more environmentally sustainable standard of living for the future University Community and for architectural buildings within that community.

Energy neutral municipal monument in Driebergen, Netherlands by Zecc Architects

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Transformation of a villa into first energy neutral monument of the Netherlands

The villa in Driebergen is a monument from the beginning of the last century. The owners bought this villa from the municipality because they had a very progressive idea of transforming this monument into a zero-energy house. Together with OPAI (Rau Amsterdam) there was a plan to realize the first energy-neutral monument of The Netherlands: a house that provides its own energy by high quality systems. Within the energy concept the house is isolated with natural materials such as reed mats and flax. The old wooden window frames are preserved and provided of insulating secondary glazing. Zecc architects integrated the energy concept in the existing monument and adjusted the villa to the wishes of its future residents. A new extension on the back strengthens the relationship with the garden and opens the house to the green surrounding.
