Sint-Martinus in Sint-Truiden, Belgium by Lensass Architects

Thursday, June 14th, 2012

Article source: Lensass Architects

The medieval character of the former inn from 1650 – presently a store –, as well as its original timber framing on the back side, has been fully restored. This very particular building technique, which continued to be used in Limburg for a long time, uses the recycled wood of torn-down buildings. Inscriptions, as well as old mortise and tenon connections testify of the re-use.

Mini Rooftop in New York by HWKN

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

Article source: HWKN

A space for urban tastemakers without logos or branding. HWKN scouted the location, created the design and oversaw construction of the temporary event location for MINI’s ”Creative Use Of Space” campaign. The sheer surprise of encountering a hill on a roof in NYC is heightened by design elements derived from MINI cars that utilize object-in-field design, like deploying brake lights into a field of sheet metal instead of at a seam.

Vittra Telefonplan in Stockholm, Sweden by Rosan Bosch

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

Article source: Rosan Bosch

How do you create a school without any walls? In the 30 schools of the Swedish free school organisation Vittra there are no classes or classrooms – instead, the students are taught in groups according to level based on the school’s pedagogical principles of ’the wateringhole’, ’the show-off’, ’the cave’, ’the campfire’ and ’the laboratory’ – didactic approaches that create different types of learning and teaching situations. In Vittra, they do not believe in regular classes and the school organisation’s vision is to create an everyday for the individual students where individual development, a living cultural work and challenging learning environments are most important.

Filadelfia Corporate Suites in Mexico City by Bunker Arquitectura

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

Article source: Bunker Arquitectura

What happens when the concept of a project is reduced to a facade in the process of its development? Are purely aesthetic aims valid in architecture? Is façadism something worthwhile? Are we to become architectural dermatologists?

A client contacted us to design a hotel for corporate suites in Napoles, a residential neighborhood in Mexico City that has been rapidly converting to office use over the past few years. The plot was located across the street from the convention center of the World Trade Center, by far the busiest office building in the city. The suites were intended to accommodate businesspeople visiting the WTC and the year round expositions.
