Villa Lepic Boutique Hotel in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire by PAOLA BAGNA

Sunday, March 31st, 2019

Article source: PAOLA BAGNA

The former governor of Abidjan’s residence was remodelled by architect Paola Bagna as 4* boutique hotel.

The design takes its cue from the Ivory Coast villa’s mid century style and tropical surroundings to charm guests with understated yet luxurious materials and forms.

Nestled between palm trees and tropical plants, this Le Corbusier inspired diamond in the rough had retained it’s appeal despite waterproofing and conservation problems. Over three years, Paola Bagna directed a renovation of the home, transforming it into a boutique hotel of 17 rooms including reception area, restaurant, meeting rooms / event space, bar, wellness area, indoor and outdoor lounges and a swimming pool.

Jean d’Ormesson Media Library in La Ferté Bernard, France by Agence Philippe Fichet

Thursday, August 30th, 2018

Article source: Agence Philippe Fichet

From the Architect

The place affirms its liberty and appears free from the barely solemn city, only defined by a nick of water and trees who crystalize History on this very site. Nothing stands up to this geographical feature. There, a very vivid and live passage, a bridge, and the beyond — the inner city border, the one of links and connections.

Located East, in the Ferté Bernard, Sartre area, the Jean d’Ormesson media library is set in a dense urban area, at the heart of the city. The 1800m² lot is situated on the edge of the old town and the river that surrounds it.

Article source: Shirli Zamir Design Studio

“Ampersand” in Bnei Brak is a unique Co-working project. It started from two orthodox initiators who had a dream to bring work spaces that in terms of design and concept bring Manhattan to Bnei Brak. Bnei Brak is a city near Tel-Aviv, populated mostly by orthodox Jews. It is crowded and tumultuous but has a magic of its own. There is a growing need in integrating the orthodox community into the local Hi-Tech market. The project provides work space for orthodox start-ups and in addition, supplies work stations and workers from the orthodox local community, to work for big companies like Google, Microsoft and more.

Article source: Neil Tomlinson Architects

Neil Tomlinson Architects has been commissioned for a new stage of work at New Covent Garden Market in London’s Nine Elms, a scheme the practice has been involved with continually since its original masterplan for the market’s future development in 2011, which considered the 23ha site’s many component parts and overall relationship to the surrounding area. The area is currently undergoing a raft of landmark developments, from the redevelopment of Battersea Power Station and the new Northern Line tube network extension to the completion of the American Embassy and numerous Nine Elms residential developments. The next stage of work for the London-based practice at the market concerns the refurbishment of up to 50 railway arch spaces on the site, in a rolling programme that will complete over an 8-year period.

River View Service Station in Pudong, Shanghai by ZHOU Wei + ZHANG Bin / Atelier Z+

Wednesday, March 21st, 2018

Article source: ZHOU Wei + ZHANG Bin / Atelier Z+

“River Viewing Service Station” is a service station at Lujiazui northern riverside section on the eastern bank of the Project on “Connecting Both Sides of Huangpu River of Shanghai”, providing citizens with rest spaces and public toilets. The station is within a narrow levee-shaped green field defined by riverside running path and inner riding path. It is an extension of the access of an existing underground garage staircase. The site is more than two meters above the city roads with the northern riverside slightly higher than the southern side. In the neighborhood there are many old trees, forming a small forest. In order to balance an extremely short project schedule of only one month and our unremitting pursuit forquality and space experience and to give consideration to problems such as space constraint and control of garage roof structural weight, we adopted the steel and wood hybrid system mainly composed of laminated wood to make a rapid construction possible. With a high prefabricated rate, the site is basically adopting dry construction, which has little impact on the environment.

Ensae Paristech Campus Paris-Saclay in France by CAB ARCHITECTES (CALORI AZIMI BOTINEAU)

Tuesday, February 27th, 2018

Article source: CAB ARCHITECTES (CALORI AZIMI BOTINEAU)

When we discovered the immense sky and the plateau devoid of physical constraints we sought to capture the landscape by a simple form and by an abstract architectural language.

The proximity of the site to the edge of the woodland led us intuitively to the primary material as it seemed necessary in this country-side site to place the building lightly on the ground. To achieve this we chose to define the project by a steel exoskeleton.
