Mother & Child welfare center in Paris, France by Rh+ architecture

Sunday, October 26th, 2014

Article source: Rh+ architecture

The project is located in the south of Paris, in a small curved street, surrounded by historical and typical french buildings of the industrial period. The low density of the neighborhood, the street shape in addition to a 2.5m difference in height give the impression of a small provincial town. In fact, the curve of the Gustave Geoffroy street gives this execeptional site several constraints that have to be used to generate a well-integrated project to its urban fabric.

Bedaux-Nagengast Residence in Tilburg, Netherlands by Bedaux de Brouwer Architects

Monday, September 8th, 2014

Article source: Bedaux de Brouwer Architects

Thomas Bedaux of Bedaux de Brouwer Architecten designed this single family residence for his family on the edge of a residential area in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Recent changes in the zoning plan yielded a previously non existing lot that is situated at the intersection of three distinctly different worlds. These worlds, an existing block of row houses from the 1950’s, farm land with roaming sheep and an active cemetery, provided unique opportunities that informed the design.

Virgin Atlantic EWR Clubhouse in Newark, New Jersey by SLADE ARCHITECTURE

Friday, January 24th, 2014

Article source: SLADE ARCHITECTURE

The Newark Clubhouse brings together NYC’s downtown flair and Virgin Atlantic’s warmth and individuality.

A constellation of sparkling pinpoint lights draws you into the sculpted entry passage. Punctuated by a sky lit receptionist at a specular desk, the entry sequence creates an extended decompression zone between the busy terminal and the relaxed luxury of the clubhouse; a dramatic immersion into the Virgin Atlantic experience.

Coral Gables Residence in Miami, Florida by Touzet Studio

Friday, January 3rd, 2014

Article source: Touzet Studio

The “City-side” façade presents itself as two restrained stone-clad volumes – a “mask” clad in material very much identified with the architecture of Coral Gables. The lower volume is rough-hewn Florida Keystone and the larger, main volume is clad in honed limestone. The mask is penetrated by only two openings on the western façade and a “frieze” of windows above. Very little of the house is visible from the street – even the thrust of the sculptural roof is hidden from view.

URBAN CURRENT[S]

A conceptual framework for the development of the city of Medellin

AN INTRODUCTION

Multiple intertwined streams of issues

Medellin is wealthy city; wealthy in terms of its ambitions and its potential. Further, this project is a rare opportunity the ability to reform the ENTIRE riverfront that runs through a major city is rare. Therefore, this opportunity must be thought of as being even bigger than just a public space design, it must be taken as a chance to reform and set the framework for Medellin’s future. Obviously the riverfront is the key element in this project, but its influence and importance is much larger than the given project site boundaries. This proposal uses this competition to set forth principals for redevelopment, the use of funds, the city and its history, the relation to ecology, the movement of people, and so forth. Clear thinking about the further evolution of the city and how this project can be a trigger in this process is not overlooked by this project.

Modern House in London, England by LLI Design

Wednesday, September 18th, 2013

Article source: LLI Design

The brief was to create a 700 square foot extension to house an open plan kitchen / living / dining room to this lateral house in Highgate, North London.

The house is in a very secluded position, surrounded by greenery, completely hidden from view, the only clue as to what lies beyond is a simple discrete gate set in the fence.

Vallpala Sports Centre in Castellón, Spain by Vicente Salvador + Ignacio Vidal arquitectos

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

Article source: Vicente Salvador + Ignacio Vidal arquitectos

The sports facility completes a public urban block where it stands currently theHonoriGarciaHigh School, the local council sports pavilion and the local council swimming pool building.  Given that the entirety of the block is publicly owned, the first thing to establish was the definition of the site to occupy.  With the aim of getting a well rationalised and arranged organisation of built elements and resulting in-between spaces, it was decided to establish the length of the existing sports pavilion as the width of the site, leaving at either side pedestrian streets to access the neighbouring facilities.
