Sunday, September 30th, 2018

Article source: PAUL MICHAEL DAVIS ARCHITECTS, PLLC

Located in a small Cape Cod style house in the Seattle’s Meadowbrook neighborhood, the benefits of compartmentalization have been taken to a new spatial level with this innovative remodel designed by PMDA and built by Karlstrom Associates.

In order to maximize space while also creating a private sanctuary, the architects conceptualized of the home’s basement as a piece of furniture; specifically, a cabinet to contain both utilitarian functions and surprises.

Identiti Advertising Renovation in Kochi, India by Meister Varma Architects

Wednesday, September 26th, 2018

Article source: Meister Varma Architects

Identiti is an advertising and branding agency run by a father-sons trio who wished to consolidate their home and office in different parts of the city into a spacious live-work unit. By the time we were approached, a building had been purchased for this purpose on a relatively compact 270 sqm site. The existing structure was an archetype of a build to rent style prevalent throughout Kerala with low daylight and even lesser character. Cramped room sizes resulting from a half-baked interpretation of Vastu (traditional Indian system of architecture) made matters worse.

Botanique, situated in a building from the 1950 decade in downtown Curitiba, southern Brazil, embodies the merger between the plants store Borealis and the Latin-American themed café Negritta – both commercial facilities with their own identity and strong personality. The challenge that Moca Arquitetura faced was to propose a venue that could hold such distinct programs. “We wanted keep both functions integrated with each other and also letting them to live independently”, explains Ana, one of the architects.

Jean d’Ormesson Media Library in La Ferté Bernard, France by Agence Philippe Fichet

Thursday, August 30th, 2018

Article source: Agence Philippe Fichet

From the Architect

The place affirms its liberty and appears free from the barely solemn city, only defined by a nick of water and trees who crystalize History on this very site. Nothing stands up to this geographical feature. There, a very vivid and live passage, a bridge, and the beyond — the inner city border, the one of links and connections.

Located East, in the Ferté Bernard, Sartre area, the Jean d’Ormesson media library is set in a dense urban area, at the heart of the city. The 1800m² lot is situated on the edge of the old town and the river that surrounds it.

Esquire Office in New Delhi, India by Studio Bipolar

Monday, August 13th, 2018

Article source: Studio Bipolar

Esquire being an American men’s magazine, published in the United States, is one which screams sophistication, yet it accomplishes this in a quirky and whimsical tone.

This thought was to be carried out in the design of their own branded nightclub in the heart of new delhi. For the sole purpose of supervision over the nightclub and its administration, Esquire needed a workspace to be developed for them in Defence Colony Market, New Delhi. This work hub was being developed for the “creative owners of a nightclub” and the design had to reflect this very aspect as well.

Country House – Sapucaí-Mirim / MG in Brazil by APBA – Arquiteto Paulo Bastos e Associados

Thursday, August 9th, 2018

Article source: APBA – Arquiteto Paulo Bastos e Associados

Designed in the early 1980s, this country house was completed in 2014, two years after the death of its author, Architect Paulo Bastos, in 2012. Built in Sapucaí-Mirim, a city located by Serra da Mantiqueira, a mountain range that separates the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, the residence was inserted in a natural glade into the woods. The location was carefully chosen by the author, in absolute respect and harmony with the existing vegetation, abundant in Araucárias, large trees indigenous of this mountainous region.
