Living on the Herrenkamp in Bielefeld, Germany by Wannenmacher + Möller Architekten

Wednesday, November 1st, 2017

Article source: Wannenmacher + Möller Architekten

The high demand for student housing is the reason for the initiation of this new development on the edge of Bielefeld’s city centre.  It was only in 2009 that a new land use plan was approved for this area, prescribing two-story detached houses with sloping roofs for this location on a narrow building plot. Following on from this, the draft provides for the establishment of four detached houses, each with two floors and a stacked storey.

Ichijoji House in Kyoto, Japan by atelier Luke

Friday, October 27th, 2017

Article source: atelier Luke

A deliberate balance between modernity and tradition creates this unique and textured retreat in the suburbs of Kyoto.

Osaka based design studio, atelier Luke, collaborated closely with craftspeople in Kyoto, Osaka and Nagano to apply traditional finishes and techniques to the design and renovation of this postwar terraced house. The client, a Danish-Australian furniture maker, wished to modernise the home without abandoning the character that makes traditional Japanese houses unique. From this position of respect, a design approach was adopted whereby modern attitudes to living would be balanced and contrasted with tradition.

34 Dwellings, Nursery And Emergency Shelter in Paris, France by MUOTO Architectes

Tuesday, October 24th, 2017

Article source: MUOTO Architectes

The project responds to the challenge of combining three different programs along Rue Stendhal in Paris : social housing, nursery and emergency centre. The organization of the building allows all three programs to coexist peacefully and take advantage of the unique features of the site such as: privacy, natural lighting in the nursery, independence, and large exterior spaces for the dwellings. The emergency shelter is arranged to be compact and provides multiple views and orientations. Sitting on a hill, the building stands in dialogue with the large horizon of the East Paris landscape. Its volumes are designed to maximize energy efficiency and user comfort. The courtyard, balconies and dwellings are oriented to achieve the best sun angles all year round. Each volume preserves distant views to neighbouring condominiums, and aims to blend cohesively into the skyline of the neighbourhood and eastern Paris. The inward facing elevation opens up to the linear garden at the rear of the building which brings light and fresh air into the dwellings and the nursery.

Cycling & Pedestrian track Lotus Flower in Massarosa, Italy by MICROSCAPE architecture urban design AA

Wednesday, October 11th, 2017

Article source: MICROSCAPE architecture urban design AA

The area covered by the project is part of the northern basin of the lake Massacciuccoli; until the 40s of the twentieth century the area was occupied by the cultivation of rice, then replaced in the late ’60s by the Lotus’ Flowers – today one of the largest camp in Europe. The site was in a state of decay and neglected and the public use was denied. Today with the new pedestrian and cycling path it brings to the light a true “environmental jewel” that opens a new scenario in an area unfortunately largely deteriorated by urbanization strongly pervasive and of poor quality. The Cycling & pedestrian track “Lotus Flower”, in its length of 1km, connects the train station of Bozzano to the centre of Massarosa and it is an integral part of the system of the regional cycling routes dedicated to Giacomo Puccini and places related to his life.

Beautiful House in London, England by Nacho Gias Studio with Tomas Gruber

Wednesday, September 20th, 2017

Article source: Nacho Gias Studio with Tomas Gruber

Ma mama, A qui li rifrega Delacroix?! (But mum, who cares about Delacroix?!)

That was the question thrown by a child to his mum while I was waiting on a huge line for the Louvre Museum, in Paris. It made me smile until I realized that the child’s premise was full of truth, it kept a reality that we forget so often.
