Wind Tower in UAE by Peter Stasek Architects

Friday, April 29th, 2016

Article source: Peter Stasek Architects

The global climate change leaves visible traces in the environment which sometimes emerge in the form of scars or devastation or simply represent the disappearance of something that has always been present. Humans struggle against this largely selfinflicted new world order and continuously try to slow this process down. The evershrinking glaciers in the high mountains are covered with awnings during summer and the regions which are endangered by sea flooding are equipped with new ramparts and sluices in order to protect the coast. Just as the tsunamis, the hurricanes transform the man-made environment in large stretches of land into a mishmash at one go, which makes it hard to guess what kind of function its components had to fulfill in the past. A new kind of aesthetics defined by chaos.

  • Challenge: A new order generated from chaos. As a new challenge, one could try to develop new urban structures and architectural forms which are not in contrast to but in conformity with the forces of nature which are able to further develop their potential of strength as a result of the global climate change.

AB apartment in Milan, Italy by DUEDIQUATTRO

Thursday, April 28th, 2016

Article source: DUEDIQUATTRO

The apartment, located inside a charming early 20th-century building, was completely redesigned in order to better respond to the occupants’ needs, without altering its « retro appeal ». The project therefore mixes a vintage decor with contemporary furniture and 20th century design pieces. The kitchen furniture and the cupboards were custom-designed. The beautiful original windows and wooden floor were kept and restored; in the bathrooms and in the kitchen, instead, the floor and wall tiles, which had been previusly replaced, were changed. In the living room, the elaborated coffered ceiling was restored and repainted; the walls were painted dark green, a strong color which enhances the original decoration and the character of this room.

Clay Roof House in Selangor, MALAYSIA by DRTAN LM Architect

Sunday, April 3rd, 2016

Article source: DRTAN LM Architect

The House is located on a small lot in the older suburbs of Petaling Jaya. The owners had purchased an old dilapidated house and wanted to rebuild a new family home. Upon inspection it was discovered that the old house had good quality Indian clay roof tiles that were still robust. And as the property faced west, the clay roof tiles offered a good solution to vertically screen the façade from the morning and afternoon sun.
