Webster Terrace was a distinguished modern movement house built in three stages. It had an open plan living/dining/kitchen with a distinctive sloped ceiling extending into a mono slope cantilevered roof.
A neighbourhood family had a redundant piece of land, and offered that to “Het Da Vinci College” , a school for animal care and gardening, with pupils who require additional support. They didn’t know where this would end, because there was a plot, lots of enthusiasm, involvement, from the school, neighbourhood and city council, but neither the skills, nor the money to realise the project. That’s where RO&AD architects stepped in. With help of the Province of Noord-Brabant, Visavis Landscape designers, who gave a small budget, they designed a plan which made it possible to be made by the teachers, the pupils, and the neighbourhood themselves. It is a 6 meters wide and 100 meters long timber structure, with relatively easy to make trusses, which are held together by nail plates. All rooms, like the classroom, animal room, greenhouses etc are placed in a row, without any room and money devouring things like halls or hallways. When Rini, a teacher at the school, saw this, he became so enthusiastic, that he offered to make the building himself. And that is what happened. He postponed his retirement for 2 years, and together with neighbours, students and lots of other people he started to work. Under the guidance of a contractor and the architects, he built the school, and the garden in 1 ½ year’s time. And it works! Neighbours are taking down their fences to get access to the school garden. They take care of the plants and the animals during the holidays, and the students finally have a place where they can be proud of to work on.

In Linköping’s new district Vallastaden, Kjellgren Kaminsky Architecture has built plus-energy houses with solar cells on the roof. The solution means that the houses produce more energy than needed and it is possible to sell the surplus to electricity companies.
The design of Copine restaurant frames the open kitchen, offering guests a view into the artistry behind chef Shaun McCrain’s approach to contemporary American cuisine highlighted with classic French cooking techniques. Equal parts intimate and social, the space offers a scale of transparency throughout, allowing the food to take center stage.
This building, conceived with a hybrid use of Public Library and Socio-Cultural Center, is located in the seaside neighborhood of Javea, near the port. This is the reason why, after a process of architectural approach, it has been inspired by reasons related to the sea … metal facade vibrates, has three dimensions and simulates movement, such as sea surface. The facade treatment, as a light metal skin that envelops the whole volume, aims to boost its weightlessness without touching the ground plane. It is a large box or floating cage, a huge metal fishing net as those in the nearby port.
The Two West space was as much about the design of the branding + communications company’s culture as it was the design of the space. Unexpected interaction with communal lounge and café spaces, oversized doors and large expanses of uninterrupted glazing make the company process visible to employees and client, increase collaborative work space and define the company culture through the design of the space. In the end, the space and architectural elements reinforce the companies brand and facilitates how they want their employees to work.
The brick house stands on the verge of village and landscape. In this house village characteristics and landscape qualities meet. The architecture of this house is founded on a traditional brick design with rural characteristics. All the surrounding houses are brickwork and have a sloping roof with ceramic roof tiles. There is a sight of chimneys, overhangings, wooden shutters, alcoves and other subtle accents. A bright and modern house has been created by using and reinterpreting these ingredients. The typical shape of the roof rises from the landscape and the inside living areas are focused on the surrounding landscape. The house is embedded in its environment by its shape, spatial construction and the used materials. It is constructed almost exclusively out of one type of material: bricks! The elongated shapes of brickwork possess a strong differentiation and thereby connects with the rural character of the surroundings.
The neighbourhood of Løren, a former industrial area and military camp, has in recent years emerged as a new, attractive residential district. As a further development of the area a new metro station was planned.
The station is located 27 meters underground and accessed by stairs, escalators or lifts from the two entrances.
San Francisco‐based Pacific Eagle and local entitlement partner SKS Partners are proposing a 36-story mixed-use residential and hotel property at 555 Howard, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW), in collaboration with Mark Cavagnero Associates. The LEED Platinum-targeted project will include 69 residential units, a 255-room luxury hotel, meeting and ballroom facilities, a spa and fitness center, ground floor restaurant, a skybar/café on the top floor that will be open to the public and a rooftop public open space with panoramic views of the city and bay.
The Oak Pass Main House sits atop a 3.5-acre ridge site with panoramic canyon views. The property’s topography and landscape, which most notably include over 130 protected Coast Live Oak Trees, were the primary drivers for the house’s design. In order to showcase and amplify the site’s inherent beauty, the house’s mass is buried into the hillside, with only a one-story pavilion above grade as it unfolds along the ridge.
