Article source: Atelier PRO architekten

The Ezinge education park is located in Meppel extending from the Ezinge residential neighbourhood, between the railway and cluster of sports fields. The elongated, bronze-tinted buildings accommodate five secondary schools and a sports complex. A new street, Dahliastraat, separates the school from the residences, and also enables the neighborhood to end with a new row of dwellings.

“House in Valley Street” in Berkeley, California by Baran Studio Architecture

Thursday, April 16th, 2015

Article source: Baran Studio Architecture

This house is set on a traditional Berkeley street, and adjacent to a former rail line (traces of which are still visible from an aerial view.) The architecture borrows from the machine qualities of the railway to echo the former land use, and blends it with the character of the current residential neighborhood. Corrugated metal wraps down the roof and wall facing the former train line, while the front of the house expresses the pitch of the roof that ties it to more traditional house forms. The interior is an open expanse that also recalls a large, open station with a free plan and high vaulted ceilings.

1896 Double-Height Courtroom Restoration by Fisher Heck Architects

Saturday, April 11th, 2015

Article source: Fisher Heck Architects

What was once two separate courtrooms with adjacent support offices and an intermediate floor separating the two, is now a grand two-story Commissioners Courtroom, restored to its original 1896 creation. In addition to the courtroom restoration, a new stairwell spanning five floors within the courthouse was designed to bring the building up to code. One of the challenging requirements to this courtroom is that it had to serve multiple uses in order to make the room more accommodating throughout the year.

Tuesday, March 17th, 2015

Article source: Hennebery Eddy Architects, Inc.

After 40 years of constant use Shute Park Branch Library had devolved into a dark, cluttered, and inefficient interior space that had little connection to its namesake park. This comprehensive renovation included a complete reorganization of the floor plan and was based on the integration of three transformative characteristics -establishing a new relationship to the park, openness, and natural light.

ZENDESK SAN FRANCISCO HEADQUARTERS in San Francisco, California by Design Blitz

Friday, March 13th, 2015

Article source: Design Blitz

Zendesk, a customer service software provider, was one of the first tech companies to move to San Francisco’s Mid-Market neighborhood to take advantage of the city’s tax incentive program, and the first to sign a community benefits agreement. After experiencing large-scale growth, it was only natural for the company to seek an additional space in the neighborhood they called home. Zendesk’s new office marks its second building on Market Street, creating an urban campus that assists in the revival of the long-neglected Mid-Market neighborhood. The new building not only serves as a headquarters for the growing Zendesk team, but also as opens its doors as a communal hub for local businesses and residents.
