The client had just purchased the site, a small but stunningly located oceanfront property with panoramic views of the Pacific, when they were introduced to me. As I had just gone out on my own after many years as Associate Director at a successful mid-size firm I didn’t have much to show that I could prove as “my own”. After a detailed selection process the client chose to engage me for the design of their new house, probably based on a lot of trust in my ability and the fact that we got on very well on a personal level.
Situation
The site is located in Nydalen in the northern part of Oslo, a former industrial area which over the last years have been transformed into housing, offices and educational areas with the river Akerselva – a main recreational area in Oslo- flowing through the neighborhood. The project is part of a transformation plan for Spikerverket (a former nail factory) by MAD arkitekter – developed by Avantor.
The house is sited on a tree lined suburban road in Cheshire and was designed for a young family couple. On the road, the house types are suburban; conservative, bland and mock traditional. Our approach was to create a fresh contemporary version of the suburban house type; one that reacts to its context and is tailored to suit the specific needs of the client.
The site is located on the new urban area in Alicante known as the Golf Club because all the singular houses have their backyard facing the Golf Course. The site area is 1.000sqm and its triangular shape confers a very specific design. The entrance to the site is in the lower and smaller side of the triangle having the other two facing the Golf Course and therefore the views
In 2008 JVA won the competition for the new master plan of Myrkdalen ski resort near Voss. Myrkdalen Hotel is the first project from the master plan that is realized.

Hueis a 5 storey apartment building that sits within a post industrial streetscape inLord Street,Richmond. The site is bound on 3 sides by large 2-4 storey brick warehouse buildings whilst across the road are the rear yards of residential properties. The brief was for a multilevel apartment building that maximised yield on the site. Our design strategy was to imagine the site as a landscaped island within its austere industrial surrounds.
As the largest, single public art/transit infrastructure project in California, we believe the Gold Line Bridge would be a very unique and special entry for coverage. The Gold Line Bridge has set many precedents. The Construction Authority wanted the art to lead the engineering, so an artist was hired before the architect and contractor. In 2010, the Construction Authority put out a national call and selected Andrew Leicester, an award-winning public artist from Minnesota.

The previous house offered tiny opening to the garden. The “back” rooms, kitchen, bathroom, previously considered as services, blocked the views from the house to the nice garden. We decided to keep these functions but to open them widely, by creating large windows. The kitchen – dining room offers an large open view to the vegetation. The bathroom has focused view to the trees.
AG5 won, in an invited competition, the commission to revitalize and extend Nørrebrohallen (previously tram sheds) i Copenhagen. In a close dialogue with the users of the sports facilities the centre expanded its programme to meet the needs of a broader range of guests. The main entrance is now aligned with the adjacent square, Superkilen, and became the centerpiece for the local district with new functions such as café, multifunctional zones and digital displays.
The new Adamsville Regional Health Center represented a rare investment of public resources in a sparsely developed, sometimes overlooked section of Atlanta. It would have to serve not only as a medical facility, but also as a catalyst for cohesion and future growth in the neighborhood.
