DOS architects are thrilled to announce that their entry for the Mixed Use development in Beijing (China) has just been announced as winner of the International design competition.
DOS architects were invited to take part in the competition setup by the site’s promoter, GWA (Grow Wealth Assets)in March this year alongside 4 other European Architecture firms, all of which were asked to produce a “Unique and Iconic building” for the site. Their ambitious proposal, which could be described as a “Cantilevering courtyard tower”, is located in the Lize Financial Business District, in the North East of China’s capital city and will be the first project for DOS architects in China.
The client wanted a consultancy space at home. The farmhouse itself is a typical courtyard farm. In order to protect privacy, and also to avoid creating a door in the rather blank outer walls, we opted for a brick gate, behind which a contemporary framework was constructed internally.

The client had just purchased the site, a small but stunningly located oceanfront property with panoramic views of the Pacific, when they were introduced to me. As I had just gone out on my own after many years as Associate Director at a successful mid-size firm I didn’t have much to show that I could prove as “my own”. After a detailed selection process the client chose to engage me for the design of their new house, probably based on a lot of trust in my ability and the fact that we got on very well on a personal level.

The site is located in Nydalen in the northern part of Oslo, a former industrial area which over the last years have been transformed into housing, offices and educational areas with the river Akerselva – a main recreational area in Oslo- flowing through the neighborhood. The project is part of a transformation plan for Spikerverket (a former nail factory) by MAD arkitekter – developed by Avantor.
The house is sited on a tree lined suburban road in Cheshire and was designed for a young family couple. On the road, the house types are suburban; conservative, bland and mock traditional. Our approach was to create a fresh contemporary version of the suburban house type; one that reacts to its context and is tailored to suit the specific needs of the client.
The site is located on the new urban area in Alicante known as the Golf Club because all the singular houses have their backyard facing the Golf Course. The site area is 1.000sqm and its triangular shape confers a very specific design. The entrance to the site is in the lower and smaller side of the triangle having the other two facing the Golf Course and therefore the views

Hueis a 5 storey apartment building that sits within a post industrial streetscape inLord Street,Richmond. The site is bound on 3 sides by large 2-4 storey brick warehouse buildings whilst across the road are the rear yards of residential properties. The brief was for a multilevel apartment building that maximised yield on the site. Our design strategy was to imagine the site as a landscaped island within its austere industrial surrounds.
As the largest, single public art/transit infrastructure project in California, we believe the Gold Line Bridge would be a very unique and special entry for coverage. The Gold Line Bridge has set many precedents. The Construction Authority wanted the art to lead the engineering, so an artist was hired before the architect and contractor. In 2010, the Construction Authority put out a national call and selected Andrew Leicester, an award-winning public artist from Minnesota.
