To keep pace with the rapid urbanization of the tier 2 city in which the residence is located, the client aspired to upgrade to a modern, luxurious lifestyle while still living as a traditional joint family. Within the relatively compact floor area, the design had to accommodate the needs of a large family, providing a sense of spaciousness while maintaining the right balance of connection and privacy.
A private house in Gifu prefecture which consists of traditional Japanese rooms and modern style LDK (Living, Dining and Kitchen). Japanese rooms are to be used in multiple way, sleeping, chilling, funeral etc. Doors of Japanese rooms are shoji of “taiko-bari” (wrapped by Japanese paper like a drum) so that frames of shoji are blurred in daytime and clarified at night.
The site is a one acre, narrow slice of hillside just blocks above bustling South Congress Ave with tree top views of downtown. Rocks and native vegetation envelope the property, consistent with the casual, un-manicured character of its neighborhood.
Solving simultaneously the response to site and client: he, a musician who wanted a modern box with views to downtown and she, a yoga practicing mid-wife who wanted a barn with animals, the solution embraces and exploits the depth and slope of the land.
In the citycenter of Roosendaal a beautiful urban villa has recently been completed which reflects in its architecture on the directly surrounding historic buildings.
It is not often possible to create a villa of this size within the historic center. The house presents itself in a clear but quirky way in wood, steel and concrete. The width of the plot in relation to the surrounding buildings gave rise to splitting the volume into two. Parking on site has become possible because the living volume has been “lifted”.
The challenge was to design a 2000sq ft space inside the clients manufacturing unit in Bangalores industrial area, that would aesthetically highlight their manufactured product apparel shirts. The facility created had to cater to clients and their guest who would spend long hours in the facility selecting apparels and signing business deals. They needed a conceptual design that would break the monotonous liner design of the factory unit and make the inhabitants feel like they were transcended into another domain and not the manufacturing unit that they had entered.
Esi burger is a cozy intimate restaurant located on Sohrevardi Street in Tehran, very close to people’s gathering space in Palizi square.
Before Admun Studio was commissioned to design this project the place had been used as a branch of quite a well-known chain restaurant and in spite of being in a crowded neighborhood it could not attract enough customers and this made us wonder what was going on in nearby juice shops and small restaurants surrounding Palizi square that attracted people from different parts of Tehran while these places did not provide considerable amenities (not even sitting spaces) and yet their customers looked satisfied and content. Seemed like lack of amenities did not matter to their customers so there should exist something more important on this square and it was very interesting for the design team. Probably people can satisfy one of their other needs on this square, need for freedom, choice, and social relationships. They like to be free of musts and must nots and share the joy and excitement of a social activity with other human beings.

Contrast House explores the role of contrast in the modern renewal of a 120-year old home. Employing the use of contrast in a historic neighbourhood and as a means to amplify natural light, the design juxtaposes opposing elements to explore the relationship between light and dark, old and new. The owners, relocating to Canada from southern climes, hoped to brighten the dark, narrow house. Although the existing house possessed a south-facing façade, it was only 11 feet wide and due to a traditional Victorian layout, had no direct sight lines to allow outward views and access to light. As a result, the primary design challenge was to increase natural light in the space, accomplished through both physical and perceptual means. Physically, the long, narrow house was reorganized in plan and in section, introducing new sight lines to the expanded openings at the rear of the house and updating the layout for a growing family. Perceptually, contrast is used as a means to ‘brighten’ internal spaces without direct access to natural light. Contrasting elements are placed in proximity to visually intensify the natural light spilling down from the large openings above.
