River View Service Station in Pudong, Shanghai by ZHOU Wei + ZHANG Bin / Atelier Z+

Wednesday, March 21st, 2018

Article source: ZHOU Wei + ZHANG Bin / Atelier Z+

“River Viewing Service Station” is a service station at Lujiazui northern riverside section on the eastern bank of the Project on “Connecting Both Sides of Huangpu River of Shanghai”, providing citizens with rest spaces and public toilets. The station is within a narrow levee-shaped green field defined by riverside running path and inner riding path. It is an extension of the access of an existing underground garage staircase. The site is more than two meters above the city roads with the northern riverside slightly higher than the southern side. In the neighborhood there are many old trees, forming a small forest. In order to balance an extremely short project schedule of only one month and our unremitting pursuit forquality and space experience and to give consideration to problems such as space constraint and control of garage roof structural weight, we adopted the steel and wood hybrid system mainly composed of laminated wood to make a rapid construction possible. With a high prefabricated rate, the site is basically adopting dry construction, which has little impact on the environment.

Article source: Tina Bergman Architect

Architect’s View

HUS NILSSON is a summer house situated at the Norrfjärden bay in the archipelago of north Sweden, on a steep slope between the forest and the sea. Despite being on the east coast, the site is facing west. Buildings in the area are mainly summer houses, scattered along the coast line and accessed from behind by a net of private roads. The bay is lively with people fishing and bathing in the summer, and ice skating in the winter.

The Screen in Bierbeek, Belgium by DMOA architects

Sunday, March 11th, 2018

Article source: DMOA architects

A beautiful plot with endless views… but unfortunately next to a truckers company. How to make the most of these two contradictory influences? Our concept: we placed a narrow, long and tall house on the far right of the parcel. The property itself acts as a screen to cover up the unsightly, noisy neighbour on the right. The right side of the house has a blind facade, while the other side opens freely towards a large, sunny garden, where there is little evidence left of the fleet and accompanying roar. Or how everything falls into place by an atypical choice of implantation and volume.

Marie’s Wardrobe in London, England by TSURUTA ARCHITECTS

An impressive large staircase in a turn of the 20th century house made the circulation generous, light and airy, but its dominance compromised the entire layout. The challenge was to replace this once favoured staircase whilst enhancing this previous spacious quality.

Ensae Paristech Campus Paris-Saclay in France by CAB ARCHITECTES (CALORI AZIMI BOTINEAU)

Tuesday, February 27th, 2018

Article source: CAB ARCHITECTES (CALORI AZIMI BOTINEAU)

When we discovered the immense sky and the plateau devoid of physical constraints we sought to capture the landscape by a simple form and by an abstract architectural language.

The proximity of the site to the edge of the woodland led us intuitively to the primary material as it seemed necessary in this country-side site to place the building lightly on the ground. To achieve this we chose to define the project by a steel exoskeleton.

Article source: Simon Rastorguev

A new office of IT-company Bitrix 24 opened in Moscow.

The task from the client wasAutodesk: to make the project of the office as quickly as possible – for 2 weeks. We had no more than 2 months to implement the project. It was also necessary to keep open ceilings with visible communications. All the rest of the interior was planned to be made as economically as possible – walls for painting, matte-glass partitions, carpet covering on the floors.
