#48 Zero Energy in Geel, Belgium by Skilpod + UAU Collectiv

Saturday, January 28th, 2017

Article source: UAU Collectiv

The growing demand for and interest in new forms of living together inspired a Belgian entrepreneurial duo to develop the product Skilpod. A Skilpod is a mobile and modular housing construction that attaches great importance to its energetic properties but that is also always searching for progressive and diverse designs. By means of modular architecture Skilpod searches for a combination of flexibility and energy efficiency. The module is completely built and finished in the Skilpod-studio and subsequently transported and placed on the site. As a result the Skilpod is also moveable to a new location at a later time. The housing constructions are built out of a timber frame structure of CLT, Cross Laminated Timber, and fully isolated with a layer of rock wool insulation. In a Skilpod all techniques can be integrated that are used in a traditional house or office. Application of solar panels, heat pumps, ventilation systems, home automation systems etc. is possible, tailored to the user requirements.

Sunday, January 22nd, 2017

Article source:  Paula Martins Arquitetura, Interiores e Detalhamento

This old three story penthouse has been fully remodelled from a terrible condition, and is now perfect for a family with children. The apartment faces Guanabara’s Bay and comes with an astonishing view of Rio de Janeiro, Sugarloaf and Christ the Redeemer. Most of the original walls have been demolished and the areas rearranged, creating more open spaces, and meaning each bedroom now has its own en-suite bathroom. The dark interior and heavy atmosphere have been completely replaced by beautiful light and open space. The facades and roof are insulated, and all the outside walls covered with tiles to avoid constant maintenance.

WATER TOWER MEMORIAL in Vukovar, Croatia by Radionica arhitekture d.o.o.

Friday, January 20th, 2017

Article source: Radionica arhitekture d.o.o.

Vukovar Water Tower was heavily damaged during Croatian War of Independence and became a symbol of war suffering.

We barely touch the Water Tower… Panoramic elevator leads us to the memorial room in place of the former water tank. In the room, on the screens, we can see documentary videos from the period of the city and Water Tower suffering. A long zig-zag path leads us to the roof, to a viewpoint from which we can see the city which is renewed. And we can see the Danube.

Domus Aurea in Nuevo León, México by GLR Arquitectos in collaboration with architect Alberto Campo Baeza

Friday, January 20th, 2017

Article source: GLR arquitectos

Placed in one of the most exclusive and privileged zones of Monterrey with an incomparable view towards the “Sierra Madre Oriental”, we found the “Sorteo Tec’s House 202”.

The residence is a tribute to Barragán, a great Mexican architect in whose designs abounds the strong presence of the light. This brightness is being reinterpreted in the project with a stunning wall covered in a golden sheet, which is also a tribute to another great artist named Mathias Goeritz.
Its shinning gives the home a magical touch that extends across the entire building, like a modern Domus Aurea.

House Vlijmen in Netherlands by Jan Couwenberg Architectuur

Tuesday, January 17th, 2017

Article source: Jan Couwenberg Architectuur

In the village of Vlijmen this house was designed for an elderly couple, who wanted to keep on living in this house as long as possible. Therefore, most of the program is located on ground level, on top only a spare bed- and bathroom are being made. The box from the ground level is being perforated with voids, where a small patio, wooden Western Red Cedar parts, or windows were made. By making this rhythm, a car port and patio-shaped exteriors give the house an extra layer between in- and outside.
