Friday, February 15th, 2013

Article source: Jun Sakaguchi Architect

Jun Sakaguchi as a practice director of PTW Architects won a design competition for this small commercial block in Tokyo in 2006. Crowned with a penthouse rising above the 31m height limit but within the set-back line, it glows like finely cut jewellery. Most surrounding buildings are 31m high, so the penthouse enjoys open views from the timber deck terrace to the Tokyo Station area and further up to the Shinjuku district.

Mineral Lodge in Savoie, France by Atelier d’Architecture Christian Girard

Friday, February 15th, 2013

Article source: Atelier d’Architecture Christian Girard

Mountain ranges often appear to be sublime. Under a mantle of snow their enormity would seemto defy the possibility of architecture. Time does not pass. Eternity stands opposed to the fragility of human accomplishments. And yet contemporary architecture has a place in an ancient hamlet. A fact amply demonstrated by the recently constructed Mineral Lodge at an altitude of 1200 metresin Savoie.

The new Eco-resort of Parque de Pedras Salgadas, Portugal, consists of a set of seven small houses in perfect harmony with the surrounding outstanding nature.

Designed in a modular prefabrication system but flexible to adapt to the specific places within the park, these houses result in several different combinations of the same three modules (entrance/bathing – living – sleeping) creating different morphologies and different dialogues with the surrounding nature, wisely occupying the empty spaces between the trunksof large trees and, at the same time, allowing each home to be unique, special and worth visiting.
