This adaptive reuse of a former warehouse has maintained the exterior almost untouched, with only a few new windows inserted into existing openings. This soft touch has been extended to the interior, where original brick walls have been exposed and the large timber roof trusses highlighted as the starting point for the conversion to a family home.
The brief called for a 4 bedroom home, with self contained guest accommodation, a home office, to be used as an equine genetics laboratory and a large garage space to store a collection of classic sports cars. There was a strong emphasis on maintaining an industrial feel to the conversion and the owners asked that there be no timber, marble or black finishes used in the renovation.

The 180 square meter sales office of the Club House NV/9 ARTKVARTAL is situated in a penthouse of an apartment building in the Serebryanicheskaya Embankment, 19, is one of the brightest examples of Moscow's modern architecture.
Our task was to create an unusual, spectacular and representative office space, taking into account the initial unique character of the site – a large light concrete space with panoramic windows, overlooking the Yauza river. A special detail is the non-standard 8,5-meter high gable ceiling.
“My home feels like a secure and loving, masculine embrace.” (client)
Hidden in an affluent coastal suburb is 'Vodka Palace' a luxurious concrete cave, tempered with natural timber finishes and primed for premium culinary, audio and visual pleasure. It is the result of a very strong collaborative process between client, architect, builder, sub-consultants, sub-contractors and suppliers. The architect was the Producer, the builder was the Director, the client wrote the script, and the sub-consultants, sub-contractors and suppliers were the invaluable technicians and artisans that pulled the vision from the ether into a 3D reality. The spirit of this project was one of its greatest joys, all worked together harmoniously to manufacturer a resolution and it is this fact in which I take the most pride. Enduring relationships have been forged and I see the end result as not my own but the combined efforts and inspiration of everyone involved.
In the outskirts of Oslo you will find this two-story modern house dug into a natural ridge, overlooking the Oslofjord. It is a response to the ongoing densification process in the city’s residential areas with mainly small-scale housing. Normally, new buildings obstruct the views and interfere with the established surroundings. This causes many conflicts, and therefore less successful sub-urban developments.
In order to preserve the views and privacy from the next-door neighbours, the roof height is kept at a minimum level, giving the impression of an adjacent garden wall, rather than a full scale building next door. Outdoor areas such as terraces and balconies are carefully placed to maximize privacy between the properties. The footprint shows a relatively small house placed along the property border, showing a different building pattern compared with what is normal in the area.
This small cabin was designed to provide a retreat for relaxation and quiet contemplation of natural surroundings. It is located on a south-east facing slope overlooking the town of Taihape with its layers of hills beyond stretching to the Ruahine Ranges.
The site, previously a market garden, was discovered when on a road journey through the middle of North Island. Initially we camped on the site enjoying its beautiful views and constantly changing light and atmospheric conditions. The desire emerged for the retreat to be a studio for art practice and a base from which to explore the landscapes of the Rangitikei – Manawatu. The brief then extended to require accommodation for occasional gatherings of friends.
Entry is from a viewing platform facing north and east.
The house is part of the main concept of the Gartenstraße in Eichgraben. The compact design of the house benefits of the slope and contains despite strict high regularities three floors. Due to projections covered spaces are being designed. The construction consists of massive timber elements. The building is cooled respectively heated by geothermal energy.
The project is located on a semi-pedestrian street where new buildings coexist with detached townhouses.
The plot is defined by a long facade of 11 meters and a courtyard in the back.
On the ground floor there is the day area and the parking. The entrance hall connects the U-shaped staircase with the entrance to the living room. The living room and kitchen are illuminated and ventilated on both facades and form a single space with the interior garden.
