ABC Street House in Stavanger, Norway by Austigard Arkitektur AS

Thursday, March 14th, 2019

Article source: Austigard Arkitektur AS

The house is an infill project, utilizing an empty lot in the dense urban fabric of the coastal town of Stavanger. The house is in many ways a sequel to House in Stavanger from 2016, which is located just 100 meters away and which spurred a new development in the area.

The project continues the tradition of low-scale, high-density urban housing in coastal towns of Norway. The density in the area is in fact comparable to any Asian megalopolis and provides opportunities for efficient energy consumption as well as a car-free lifestyle for the people who live there.

Újpest New Market-Hall and UP Event Space in Budapest, Hungary by Firka Építész Stúdió Kft.

Sunday, March 10th, 2019

Article source: Firka Építész Stúdió Kft.

The market place, besides the city hall and the church, has always been the most important part of the center of the 4th district. However, from the 1970s on, the introverted late-modern market buildings and their service area occupied the public space of St. Stephen Square. The purpose of the current transformation is to give this space back to pedestrians and events by the forthcoming demolition of obsolete buildings, while the market is renewed within up-to-date frames.

Morrissey in Turin, Italy by BLAARCHITETTURA

Thursday, February 28th, 2019

Article source: BLAARCHITETTURA

This intervention is part of our double project in a same building. They have the exact same starting plan. They are two twin residential units, respectively the 5th and 6th floor of the same building. Even the internal conditions were the same.

Operatively we faced this project in the opposite way. The approach to the two projects was rather antithetical. Despite having both a type similar client, a young couple, we decided to treat the distribution issue in different way.

While the open area of PORTLAND is invaded by a falling meteorite (concrete cube), MORRISSEY is sectioned by bi-dimensional planes, which define spaces slicing the available volume.

Palo Alto Eichler Remodel in California by Klopf Architecture

Tuesday, February 26th, 2019

Article source: Klopf Architecture

Klopf Architecture completely remodeled this once dark Eichler house in Palo Alto creating a more open, bright and functional family home. The reconfigured great room with new full height windows and sliding glass doors blends the indoors with the newly landscaped patio and seating areas outside. The former galley kitchen was relocated and was opened up to have clear sight lines through the great room and out to the patios and yard, including a large island and a beautiful walnut bar countertop with seating. An integrated small front addition was added allowing for a more spacious master bath and hall bath layouts. With the removal of the old brick fireplace, larger sliding glass doors and multiple skylights now flood the home with natural light.
