The space needed to serve as a showroom and collaborative center for the company’s east coast clients and partners, so it was crucial that it express the company’s unique and innovative culture.

Rose Library in Norman, Oklahoma by John Postic

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

Article source: John Postic

Libraries today serve as gathering places, community centers, and cafes. We need to stop viewing libraries as sacred temples of reading and research and more as a collective gathering place of people, ideas, events, and resources; a place that incites imagination and satisfies curiosity – a veritable flowering of culture. With a form that evokes the Oklahoma Rose, this library has a multi-layered skin that passively filters light, sound, and visitors to the library. These ‘petals’ diffuse the light entering the library, reducing solar heat gain and providing excellent reading light.

House Bar / Cave Bar in Manhattan, New York by Barker Freeman Design Office (designed with Generative Components and Maxwell)

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

Article source: Barker Freeman Design Office

With these two proposals for a bar in the East Village in Manhattan, we employed a striking silhouette on the façade to bring presence to the space on the street. With House Bar, we used painted, perforated MDF panels to continue the house profile on the interior, which terminates in a DJ booth at the end of the room. Lighting filters through the perforations to provide ambient illumination.
