2011 Taipei Museum Competition in Taiwan by Marcy Wong Donn Logan Architects

Article source: Marcy Wong Donn Logan Architects

ARCHITECTURE & LANDSCAPE CONCEPT

To achieve the objectives of an architecturally iconic museum of art with versatile art exhibition spaces in a highly sustainable project this proposal defines the concept of art exhibition beyond the conventional “stuffy” notions of uniformly rectangular, windowless interior galleries. Instead, the project provides both interior and exterior venues for a variety of public experiences, and creates the opportunity for day-lighting and sustainability in ways that are unprecedented for art museums.

Ciné-moiré: Changing the Face of Pushkin Square in Moscow, Russian Federation by Barker Freeman Design Office (designed using Rhino, Grasshopper, and Maxwell)

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

Article source: Barker Freeman Design Office

Our proposal for the historic Pushkinsky Theater creates a programmatic envelope for the existing volume that expands the territory of the theater into a series of enfolded layers and surfaces that connect the building enclosure to the plinth on which it resides and out onto the landscape of Pushkin Square itself.  The shifting angles of the new envelope knit together the two axes in the public space of the square:  the building’s frontal alignment with the park, fountain and Pushkin statue and its diagonal relationship to the Boulevard Ring angling away from it.

Dining Womb by John Lum Architecture Inc.

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

Article source: John Lum Architecture Inc.

The Dining Womb was created for the 2010 DIFFA (Design Industry Foundation Fighting Aids) fundraiser whose simple brief was to create tables for dining, which were viewed and used by patrons during the event.   Typically dominated by interior designers who create decorative and theatrical table tops, we wanted to get beyond the superfluous, and focus on the critical elements necessary for a great dining experience; namely intimacy, intrigue and sensuality.  As architects, we wanted to create something that was rigorous and functional, with a strong conceptual, structured form.  Our brief required us to seat twenty individuals.

Entrance

  • Architect: John Lum Architecture Inc.
  • Name of Project: Dining Womb
  • Project Designer/Manager: Bret Walters
  • Lighting Advisor: Scott Dumas, David Scott Lighting
  • Software used: Rhino 5.0, 64-bit for the 3D work and the Maxwell Render plug-in for rendering.  The workflow includes photoshop, Illustrator, and Vectorworks as well.

Fort York National Historic Site Visitor Centre in Toronto, Canada by Patkau Architects Inc.

Fort York Heritage

Fort York, considered the birthplace of Toronto, is a National Historic Site. It represents the single most important cultural heritage link to British military and social history remaining in the City of Toronto. The Fort’s layered historical themes and associations with a rich archaeological past re-enforces the need for a sensitivity in design to both the existing above-ground cultural heritage resources and the below-ground archaeological resources. The larger challenge of this project is not only to present cultural heritage and preserve archaeological resources but also to contribute in making the social, military and intangible histories of this site more present and palpable.

It generously offers expereineces of salty ocean breeze, the high latitude and breath taking views from its mountains, and busy city life saturated with cultural happenings. Northern Europe Migrants Organization in Calais, France by Felix de Montesquiou and Hugo Kaici

Friday, May 6th, 2011

The city of Calais, located at only 42km of the British coast, is the hottest spot of illegal migration in France. When Sarkozy closed the Sangatte immigrant center a year ago, we decided to react on the subject, in a very ironical and cynical way. This is when we decided to design an illegal immigration base.
