Madonna della Rosa Sanctuary Extension in Monticelli Brusati, Italy by Studio Artec

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

The sanctuary of ‘Madonna della Rosa’ (Our Lady of the Rose), which dominates a hilltop in Monticelli Brusati, northern Italy, is the most representative building of this typical Lombardian village in Franciacorta. Around the main body of the church, built in the 14th century, the apse, a side chapel and the entrance portico have been added in the following centuries. Contiguous to the church there is the sacristan’s home, a private house on two floors, built in the 18th century.

House in Monticelli Brusati in Brescia, Italy by Studio Artec

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

We like thinking about this house as a transposition on our territory of a Californian Case Study House of the 1950s and 60s. The structure is of course adapted to the local climate and landscape, but the spirit that generated this design is that of simplicity and of being self-confident with the place as it had been for those so famous houses.
