The site is located approximately 1 km west of Nagoya castle and in the neighborhood there are 2 story houses as well as high rise apartments over 10 stories high.
The site of this house was a housing development which have passed around 40 years since the area had stared selling. There are over 400 numbers of houses but they have no value as a property and people who are living in are not so young anymore. The demands of client are an over 330 square meter land space and enough distances from neighbors for a better privacy. Then the site was thought as the better conditions because of the low price of land and the density of the development.
The premise is located at Karuizawa Minamihara. The client hoped a single-story wooden building as a second house to coexist with the surrounding richly green natural blessings.
The creation of a building in which the space is simplified to the utmost limit and the people could have primitive experiences there: the House of Senzokuike, known as Monolith, was created under that proposition.
The property was on a low hill, and the client wanted the brand new residence in the familiar environment. The east side was a steep slope with the open front, and his top priority was the “dwelling space with the living room with the extensive view where he can spend the extraordinary life.” The client was well aware of my design style to details, and was convinced that “the dwelling space of my wish and your style resonate each other.”
Located on a steep and technically challenging site in West Vancouver, the Sunset House is designed to capture immediate views of heavy marine traffic and the open sea to the west. The irregular shape of the sites boundaries align with the edge of the house and culminate in a substantial blinder which provided privacy from adjacent properties.
For the Munich headquarters of hotel chain Motel One, we designed a conference and training centre, multiple office floors, a central lobby and a restaurant that is also open to the public. The aim was to identify a single design idiom to be used across all areas, which meshes with the Corporate Identity of Motel One while still possessing an autonomous identity.

Stüben, a steep mountain plot above Dornbirn, offers views over the Vorarlberg Rhine Valley, the alpine landscape from the First to the Swiss mountains and in the northwest over Lake Constance. The house captures the panorama with its largely glazed living area on the top floor, and in its formal language it creates references to the architecture of traditional farmhouses.
In commissioning the extension and refurbishment of Stephen’s childhood home, a 3-bed terraced house in North Dublin, Dolores and Steve Snr desired something light and spacious that would help them engage with their sizeable garden, previously hidden from view.
A large amount of glazing was employed to provide a transformative panoramic view, while also increasing the solar heat gain into the house. The old kitchen extension had been the greatest source of heat loss in the house, so it was poetic that its replacement should become a net contributor to thermal comfort. With the extension primarily facing north, a roof light runs the length of the extension to allow sunlight to enter the space throughout the day.
