In our opinion architecture is not neutral, it takes a clear position. She moves, surprises and is beautiful. In the creation of good architecture, the role of the client is not to be underestimated. They have to choose the right architect for the realization of their dream. A client that has utter confidence in their architect, as was the case, allows us to push the project further than the direct materialization of the design brief. A critical dialogue between client and architect is an ideal breeding ground for a beautiful project.
The owner spent quite a few years for found this site, therefore my main concern was to link the beautiful vast sea of trees spread out to Mt. Asama (Asamayama in Japanese) with internal space.
First of all, we can enjoy a sea of trees from the approach deck to the entrance. When open the large door to the living room, Mt. Asama and the foot of it spread in picture window frame formed by the deep and low-height eaves.
Abbots Way, the latest creation by AR Design Studio, is a stunning five bedroom house. Bordered by mature trees and a small lake, this spectacular house creates feelings of ultimate relaxation and privacy, whilst its contemporary design juxtaposes superbly with its beautifully rural location, on the south coast of England.
This is an office for a Shibuya based company that is moving onto the IT business, located in the Hikarie Building. It comprises of 2200m2 of large open areas featuring common spaces, such as the front desk, meeting spaces and work spaces for around 400 workers.
The owners of this house, a young married couple, made a special request in regards to the design of their house, located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Shibuya ward. They wanted both a skateboard park and a piano rehearsal room to reflect their own individual interests.
There was no need for a car park on the site, so to take advantage of space a private entrance courtyard was designed. The sliding glass panels of the first floor open up onto this enclosed area and allows for the workshop and studio to expand outwards. The studio has a skateboard bowl imbedded into the floor with multiple angles for plenty of different interaction.
The overall design of the house was a direct response to an array of environmental regulations, site constraints, solar orientation and specific programmatic requirements.
The bambooline berlin explores the cities urban development and proposes a new approach for the temporary, interim use of sustainable urban wasteland. A new, imaginary band complements the historically developed lines of the Berlin cityscape: the Berlin bambooline.
Vista Del Valle is a 4,400 square feet house in the Sonoma hills that articulates modern forms, site informed design, and soft clean materials. The project is on a steep site with a view out over the valley, with distant views of Mt. Diablo and East Bay. Its multi-axis plan and gently sloped shed roofs create informal active spaces that look modern in form and yet remain soft with light finely-textured stucco and warm clear-grain horizontal cedar siding.
This is a two-generation family housing situated on high ground in Tokyo metropolitan area. The housing is composed of two interlocked volumes of A-House and B-House. We intend to provide completely different spatial sequences in both houses.
The site is 15m(width) x 30m(length), long in south-north direction. Church, which is mainly used as facility for wedding parties, is located on the west side. We created a U-shaped volume and a courtyard in the middle, in order to get enough sunlight from all directions. Exterior finish is white cement plaster exposed aggregate finish with coral sand. The white volume sits on the basement, where separate entries to both houses and car parking are located.
The villa is built above Sion on gently sloping south-facing land, overlooking the Rhone Valley. The house is organized on two levels. Outdoor spaces are treated as extensions of interior spaces and defined by white-tinted exposed concrete walls identical to the interior walls to emphasize the unity and continuity of the space.
