HOME centre for international contemporary art, theatre and film in Manchester by Mecanoo

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015

Article source: Mecanoo

Located at First Street, HOME forms the cultural heart of one of the largest areas of development in Manchester city centre – a flagship building that acts as a catalyst for the surrounding area. As the base for the new organisation formed by the merger of Cornerhouse and The Library Theatre Company, HOME has been designed to allow for the commissioning, production and presentation of critically engaged and technically complex artistic projects, as well as the hosting of large scale cultural events. The overall budget for HOME was £25 million. Its striking exterior acts like beacon, while the welcoming public spaces and social areas within are designed to be inviting to all. HOME is like a second home, a cultural home: a place for making, meeting and socialising, alongside enjoying the very best in international contemporary visual art, theatre and film.

HOUSE OF MEMORY AND COMMUNITY SPACE in Antioquia, Colombia by Taller Sintesis

Saturday, March 28th, 2015

Article source: Taller Sintesis

Pueblo Bello is a town of Antioquia Uraba, inhabited by about 2000 people, which from 1990 and for nearly twenty years suffered the worst effects of paramilitary and guerrilla violence. Enforced disappearances, massacres, the burning of buildings and people, and population displacement were common. In this dark picture is highlighted the disappearance of “the 43″, the largest forced disappearance of the history of Colombia and the reason why the nation was sanctioned by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.

Temporary housing for surfers in Tarifa, Spain by Barberio Colella ARC

Friday, March 20th, 2015

Article source: Barberio Colella ARC

Lanterns Sea Village is the attempt to transform a vision into architecture: light tetrahedral solids that hover over the sea, suspended in one point. This vision is not born of a whim, but of a necessity: the need to minimize the impact on a beautiful landscape such as Tarifa, providing temporary housing for surfers who inhabit the waters.

Contemporary Villa in Tuscany, Italy by Storm Studio Architecture

Tuesday, March 10th, 2015

Article source: Storm Studio Architecture

A villa sited in the Tuscany countryside which is respondent to the requests of a young couple.
The shape of the project solves the great height difference from the street level to the garden, using a series of embankments at various levels which mixed stone and grass. The metallic roof (an oxidized copper roof) has its own life and its purpose is to lighten the structure of the ground floor.
