Cala Esmeralda Inturotel in Cala D’Or beach Mallorca overhauled with traditional island materials
The hotel lies in the beautiful Balearic gem of Cala D’Or, and overlooks the nearby Cala Esmeralda beach. This area is located south east of the island and is known for its famous port that runs along the Cala Llonda. Al this area is surrounded by beautiful wooded creeks and turquoise waters.
For this project and taking into account the history of the building and the natural surroundings, we decided to realize a modest intervention, bringing the building back to its origins and restoring its interiors with a contemporary style overhauled with the islands traditional materials.

G+3 storey structure was planned to suit multifunctional purpose – An architectural design Studio on first floor, a house for small family on the second floor and the recreational space – amphitheater & terrace garden on the top floor.
New café and pottery studio Les Faiseurs—located at 6564 Saint-Laurent Blvd.—is now open for business. Customers are invited to discover contemporary ceramics in a unique space which combines a boutique showcasing artwork by local ceramists, a pottery studio offering classes and introductory workshops, as well as a café serving beverages in handmade ceramics courtesy of DOMPIERRE.
”Game On” is a LEED Certified Gold ground-up home resulting from a historic landmark lot split in which the neighboring historic home from the 1890s was originally on one large lot. The historic home was picked up and placed on a new foundation creating a vacant lot for “Game On.” The design was required to be approved by Aspen’s Historic Preservation Commission and needed to stand on its own while being contextual with the historic resource. The purity and execution of the detailing further distinguishes “Game On” bringing a greater clarity to the traditional gable form.
The main challenge for this 3 apartment’s project was a combination of an ambitious architectural program and a plot with limited dimensions. The 106 sq m of land were maximized to have all the necessary services for the building inhabitants.
Concrete frame was chosen as construction system to avoid the use of columns, creating more spacious areas. Mobile wooden panels were used for the interiors of each apartment to open or close both integrating and isolating the spaces creating suitable environments for the different activities.
These two new houses on a constrained brownfield site offer contemporary design within a predominantly Edwardian environment. We overcame challenges including complex party wall conditions, a tight footprint, conservation area setting, constraints regarding the relationship with neighbouring buildings and the presence of a rail tunnel beneath. The homes are spacious, light and airy, with generous external terraces and balconies compensating for the lack of garden space.
This work examines the expressiveness of the materials in discourse with their surroundings. We have created an Interstitial architecture that seeks to exploit the intermediate spaces that are neither inside or out.The richness of this project is found in these spaces and their effect on the the relationship between a home and the daily activities of the inhabitant. We sought permeability without transparency, the juxtaposition of functions, the superposition of screens and a play of scales.
The house is located in the San Diego neighborhood of the city of Moreno; a neighborhood with large homes and gardens, treelined streets and wide open spaces. The lot is situated facing a large neighborhood park.
The best of the countryside in the best part of the city. They say we cannot have it all and that we always desire what we don’t have. But sometimes it happens, sometimes the bell rings and you encounter a rough diamond, the possibility of having the best of living in the countryside: a house with your own garden, swimming pool, dog and best views of nature but at the same time situated in a tower in the center of Madrid with the neighborhood, pharmacy and bar at your feet. And marvelous 360º views. Sometimes dreams come true.

The new Torre Olmo is located 5km south east of the historic district of Xalapa, and south of federal highway 140, just next to the highway overpass Arco Sur. The site has a strong topographic slope, with the highest level being 7m above the street level.
The project is comprised of an 8 floors office building in the shape of a cube plus a business center, an horizontal parking lot complements the composition, and under the cube shaped office building a commercial space faces the street.
In the Venetian lagoon, an artificial island has been transformed into a luxury resort and park. The island, built in 1860 is a state-protected landscape and has about twenty early-twentieth-century buildings, including a hospital and service buildings. The project’s complexity was managed through a shift in scale from the macro (masterplan) to the micro (details) by Matteo Thun + Partners.
