ICE Krakow Convention Centre in Poland by Ingarden & Ewý Architects

Saturday, February 25th, 2017

Article source: Ingarden & Ewý Architects

ICE Kraków Congress Centre is a modern, world-class venue dedicated to culture – music, opera, ballet, theatre – and congresses. Designed at the highest standards of acoustics and mechanics. Besides the three main halls with 1915, 600, and 300 seats, the shell holds a multifunctional conference space of 550m2. ICE Kraków stands in the most prestigious location in Poland: opposite Wawel Castle, a location that influenced main design decisions. Hiding a multi-story foyer open to a panorama of Kraków, the Vistula embankment façade is spectacularly transparent. The outer shell combines glass, ceramics, and aluminium, with colours ceramic tiles reflecting those of the interior: red of the Auditorium Hall, graphite of Theatre Hall, white of the foyer, and the silvery aluminum used for the roof.

Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, France by betec Lighting AG

Friday, November 11th, 2016

Article source: betec Lighting AG

When lighting large paintings with strong frames, a large picture light is required for optical balance between the image and the light. Introducing “Maximus”, which can be adjusted to fit pictures with widths of up to two metres. An additional feature of using the “Maximus” for lighting paintings or museums is that it produces ambient lighting. Most of the light is directed towards the painting, however, some unavoidable stray light fills the room with an unnoticeable background brightness, which is good for our wellbeing.

Het Kielzog Cultural and Municipal Complex in Hoogezand, The Netherlands by De Zwarte Hond

Friday, October 21st, 2016

Article source: De Zwarte Hond

The Municipality of Hoogezand-Sappemeer has been given a single, prominent, public building in which a theatre, an arts centre, a library and the town hall are accommodated. In the dynamic heart of this Dutch municipality citizens are served a wide palette of services, information, education, culture and recreation. Existing elements, such as the theatre auditorium, dating back to the 1980s, are re-used in the new development. The adjacent town hall, at the moment still in an outdated state, will ultimately undergo a complete transformation. In the meantime the existing premises and the new build function as a single entity. The connecting, central street forms a temporary solution to the gaps in the present infrastructure. Both in terms of use, as well as technological exploitation and urban design, the new central building has great advantages for Hoogezand-Sappemeer.

Spira in Jönköping, Sweden by Wingårdhs

Sunday, October 9th, 2016

Article source: Wingårdhs

Spira is twisted as a spiral to catch the attention of the eye as well as the body; transparent, to turn every side into a front; compact, to be efficient and sparse; meandering, to create expectation.

The performing arts centre Spira in the city of Jönköping is a regional scene for music and theater in the southern part of Sweden. It is a culturally vivid part of the country, but the performing arts have not had a permanent stage so far. Our proposal is a result of a winning competition from 2005 and the house was inaugurated on 11.11.11.
