The Grotiusgebouw (Grotius building) is a new university building of the Radboud University Nijmegen. The university is situated in a green, park-like environment. The compact, detached building with its orientation to all sides fits perfectly into this green campus. The building will mainly be used by the Faculty of Law.

HAN University of Applied Sciences has the most sustainable academic building in the Netherlands.

Solar City Nijmegen has been enriched with the addition of a unique and sustainable building. The I/O building, which recently became the new home of the Faculty of Education of HAN University of Applied Sciences (HAN), is the most sustainable academic building in the Netherlands. The outward appearance of the building is determined by sustainability aspects, which also respect adjacent buildings.

These two student dormitories – a courtyard building in the forest and a high-rise building with a climbing wall – stand on the campus of Enschede University in the East of the Netherlands. Thanks to a functional mix of housing, study and leisure and the arrangement of the buildings as solitaires in the landscape, the university compound from the 1950’s is one of the few real campuses in the Netherlands.

For nearly a century, The New School has been at the forefront of progressive education, with design and social research driving approaches to studying the issues of our time, from democracy and urbanization, to technology, sustainability, and globalization. Over the past 15 years, The New School has built on this legacy to grow into a major degree-granting university, with nearly 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students. But, in recent years, as the school outgrew its longtime home in New York’s Greenwich Village and found its real estate holdings spread across the city, from the Financial District to the Upper West Side, this pedagogical model proved challenging to maintain without the physical plant to support it. The University Center both supports and furthers this model through its innovative design and responds to the school’s increasing demand for state-of-the-art, interdisciplinary spaces.

The new Repsol corporate headquarters, by the Spanish architect Rafael de La-Hoz, receives LEED Platinum certification as one of the most sustainable buildings in Europe

The highest distinction for newly constructed buildings is awarded by the prestigious U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED NC (New Construction and Major Renovations) certification guaranties that the entire building has been designed and built according to the most demanding sustainability criteria.

The plot is located in a corner of the busy Vicuña Mackenna Avenue, on which an elevated metro runs. Located in front of the site is the largest Campus of one of the most important universities in the country. Its main access is on the diagonal to the site of the Santo Tomás Professional Institute. Another important issue is the oppressive presence of a metro station of 150 meters in length, located in front of the site with the height of 4 floors. The only visual relief occurs at the corner of the site, exactly on the mentioned diagonal. It was thus decided to access the Institute on that axis.

New university built into destroyed old town area records both the absence of the Old Town and it’s rebuilding.

Context

Narva is a border city between Russia and Estonia. Prosperity of the city was in 17th century, when under the Swedish reign new baroque-style city center was developed. The Old Town was destroyed during WWII and after when it was demolished and replaced with modernist city. After the war local people were not allowed to return to the city, new habitants were brought in from Soviet Union.

Historic Buenos Aires Building Revitalized As Di Tella University Campus Alcorta by WSDG

A once grand, but long-abandoned, state building, has been reclaimed as the new Di Tella University Campus Alcorta in Buenos Aires.  A work in progress since 2004, the ambitious re-development was designed and coordinated by RDR Arquitectos, an architectural  firm with offices in Argentina and Switzerland. The multi-national, Walters-Storyk Design Group provided integral acoustic design and consultation, and played a key role in the project’s audio/visual and interactive technology system integration.

The planned Check-Point Building for the Faculty of Computer Science and for science-oriented youth is located in the center of the campus, between the buildings of the Physics and Mathematics Faculties  and the Dan David building. The building is designed to enable separation between the two groups of users, and yet to encourage informal meetings between them, by allowing the joint use of some facilities, such as the auditorium and large classrooms.
