Oud Krispijn is a neighborhood in the city of Dordrecht. It was planned by Van der Peck in 1932 as a Garden City for the working class: a warped grid, small housing blocks, sweet little houses with front and back gardens, refined ‘corner solutions’, alleys and several ‘green’ axis and some modest squares. And a lot of hedges.

Privacy and Community by Box Urban

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Article source: Box Urban

The site was one half of a “semi-d” built during the 1950s on a left over site in a Victorian neighbourhood bounded by the sea and the train line. The building was well below current building standards technically and spatially. The layout of the interior and its relationship with the external spaces was completely contrary to the requirements of a modern family home.

Living Roof in Berlin, Germany by NAU Architect

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

The Living Roof offers you the essence of the city. It condenses all the functions of daily life into a compact and selfsustaining capsule, intended for urban rooftops, but ready to be airlifted into the savanna at short notice. The minimal interior allows for concentrated thought and recuperation, while the highly efficient enclosure helps resolve one of the paradoxes of modern life: the contemporary citizen seeks mobility, but also wants to tread softly on the environment. For just this sort of traveler, NAU has designed the Living Roof, the first short-term housing unit to produce more energy than it consumes.

Cloud chamber in London, United Kingdom by Tham & Videgård Arkitekter

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Victoria & Albert Museum – 1:1 Architects Build Small Spaces (exhibition 2010).

Cloud chamber

We envisage the Cloud chamber as a retreat detached from everyday life, in part a direct response to the urban context of the V&A and its surroundings, but also a vehicle for the public to engage with and experience architectural scale and space at first hand. The aim is both a visual and physical experience of the tension between a direct and expressive exterior and a sensual, surprising and challenging interior.
