La Héronnière in Quebec, Canada by Alain Carle Architecte

Wednesday, April 8th, 2020

Article source: Alain Carle Architecte

La Héronnière’s conceptual approach proposes an interpretation of the notion of recycling.

We offer a reflection on the importance of maintaining a theoretical issue in our practice, which seems undermined by the public’s sole interest today in the technical dimension: “sustainable development”.

Blue Sail in California by Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects

Monday, March 16th, 2020

Article source: Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects

Situated on a sloping hillside with ocean views in a typical residential neighborhood, this project was an extensive renovation of an uninspired house that failed to take advantage of the obvious assets of the property: the views. Although no square footage was added, the interior spaces were completely reorganized, taking down interior walls and reorienting living spaces to open up to the incredible views of the Pacific Ocean. Living, dining, study and kitchen were combined into one common space that is framed by a 9’6” high and 40’ wide opening that pockets away completely, revealing uninterrupted views of the ocean. The master bedroom was also redesigned as a single set of flowing spaces. Bedroom, bath and closet have no doors separating them and of course are open to the ocean view. The simple material palette of concrete floors, stucco exterior, Rhinezink panels and walnut cabinets was another strategy to keep the architecture focused on the site and place.

Villa Vista in Prague, Czech Republic by matula sidej tycar architects

Sunday, March 15th, 2020

Article source: matula sidej tycar architects

A large residental compound, located in traditional city villas quarter Hanspaulka, is surrounded by a historical garden park, on a sloping terrain. The garden itself, together with panoramic views of Pragues skyline, are the main inspirations for the design concept. Its massing and apparently minimalist composition is formed by ingenious stacking of five blocks – storeys. The lowest one – entrace and parking level extending to the exterior granit covered yard is wholly cut into the terrain. The second storey is also partly submerged. It is the largest by floor area and forming masonry pedestal of the house.

Cam Thanh A&A Villa in Hoian, Vietnam by VRA Design

Thursday, March 12th, 2020

Article source: VRA Design

This project was located in Hoian City, an ancient town in Vietnam. The house has an advantage of natural and cultural background because Hoian is famous for hundreds of years old houses along with diverse and unique flora and rivers. Therefore, we formed the idea to design this house based on the filtering and promoting the cultural and natural values of the locality. Specifically, the architectural form is transformed from the impression of native plants, and the architectural space is transformed from the native residential space. Besides that, we pay attention to the variation in the use of materials and in spatial design or morphology. All aimed at creating a unique and newness of the house, but it’s still adapting to the local climate, comfortable and familiar to indigenous living habits.

San Diego ADU / Garage renovation in California by Modern Granny Flat with Ramiro Losada-Amor and Prismatica

Sunday, March 1st, 2020

Article source: Modern Granny Flat with Ramiro Losada-Amor and Prismatica

San Diego Garage Conversion is an integrated garage remodel of a large capacity garage where a couple wanted to live with a lot of flexibility. The space is configured depending on the needs of each moment. For this, several tools were built: mobile panels divide the bedroom into two spaces; a bed integrated into a bookcase converts the living room into a guest bedroom; a mobile island allows different configurations of the kitchen. To make all this possible, the center of the space houses the bathroom, the plumbing part of the kitchen and part of the storage areas. So, the rest of the space is open and configured with ease.
