The revitalization of the historic village of Val-Jalbert aims to enhance the architectural integration between yesterday and today. Invaded by an impressive natural strength, the fall of the Ouiatchouan river reveals a striking story in the heart of the experiential trail of Val-Jalbert.
Kappl is a small village in the mountains of Tyrol in Austria. The main task of this project was to create an attractive village square between the existing church and a nearly 40 º inclined slope. The new buildings were thus situated as to form a U-shaped outside space with the church adding the southern closure.
The site is located in the centre of Kilmeena Parish- a large geographical area spreading over many townlands between Westport and Newport County Mayo. The site is in close proximity to the local church, primary school, football pitch, golf course and local aquaculture industries. The client for the project was Mayo County Council and the brief was for a new community centre together with 14 new houses and a child care facility.
Every consideration on viaduct redevelopment must start with particular attention to the largest sense of its context1 as well as its components, both visible and invisible. It is of course essential to consider the site’ potential in order to integrate the project within its landscape; furthermore, to gain a deep understanding of every single component representing the milieu2, appears as a fundamental task for the development of such a project. We also have to be aware of the current international climate that goes far beyond the Calabre region, as it can influence, and maybe even develop the local scale of the Project.
