Water Park Aqualagon in Paris, France by Jacques Ferrier Architecture

Wednesday, August 1st, 2018

Article source: Jacques Ferrier Architecture

A Landmark

The direction of the winds and the path of the sun have determined the floor plan for our project. Protected from cold north-easterly winter winds, nestling up to the forest, the aquatic park opens towards the west to make the most of cool breezes in warm weather.

Bellevue Botanical Garden Visitor and Education Center in Washington by OLSON KUNDIG

Monday, July 2nd, 2018

Article source: OLSON KUNDIG

Since opening in 1992, the 53-acre Bellevue Botanical Garden has become one of the most popular public gardens in the Pacific Northwest. A growing interest in native plantings and gardening, as well as expanded programs, has drawn large crowds to the botanical gardens in recent years. The design of the new visitor center answers these needs while blurring the boundaries between architecture and the gardens. Balancing civic function with residential scale and attention to detail, the design creates intimate, inspirational spaces that allow for exploration and quiet reflection.

Article source: v2com

The concept for the siting and construction of the new visitor centre for Seigneurie-des-Aulnaies, a registered Quebec cultural heritage site, is grounded in the characteristic elements of the surrounding landscape: the river, bridges, forest and stone buildings. The architects opted for a Land Art approach, focusing on natural settings and materials. The aim was to make the new building as discreet as possible and showcase the site’s most interesting landscape and heritage features.

Visitor Pavilion at Castle Duivenvoorde in Voorschoten, Netherlands by 70F architecture

Tuesday, April 24th, 2018

Article source: 70F architecture

Dutch architecture studio 70F architecture designed a visitors center that ‘lives’. Hof van Duivenvoorde (Duivenvoordes Courtyard) has nine movable facade parts that open up the building in the morning and close it at night. When the façade is open the building is a light restaurant, when it’s closed it becomes a modest barn that disappears in its surroundings.
