In the historical center of Puebla, the Amparo Museum is housed in a complex of colonial buildings. With a limited site, TEN Arquitectos modernized Amparo’s spaces and updated its circulation through the insertions of glass vestibules of varying scales.
OPUSTERRA PANEL was created with a very specific design intent – to create a PANEL that resembles being pulled out from the ground in one, swift move, evoking earthiness, natural aesthetics, and ancient materiality.
This development aimed to create a unique, qualitative architecture with a new and multifunctional visitor center. The architectural work was lead by István MURKA, who reflects to the local traditions in this work. This bipolar building is closely tied to the materials using and the traditional construction solutions of this area. The process involved developing a unique manufacturing process, where the high-tech material of IVANKA is applied by hand into a specialized cast, and the result is a PANEL that is never the same as any other. The PANELS are more than 3 meters long. The resulting surface of the large format is naturally raw, aggregate-revealing, shows ample aggregates, and is reminiscent of the layers of the soil as it emerges from the deep.
Related services: design and engineering services, project management, research and development, technological innovation, customized factory production, packaging, delivery, installation
Highlighted features: custom colour development, surface development of aggregate revealing extra raw, layered concrete texture, 3+ meters long large format panels, engineered to Halfen fixing system
The new Danish Wadden Sea Centre – ultramodern, sculptural architecture rooted in local tradition
With a completely re-conceptualized conversion and extension, the Wadden Sea Centre – gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Site – has recently been opened to the public in Ribe on the west coast of Denmark. At the new Wadden Sea Centre, internationally renowned Danish architecture firm Dorte Mandrup has set a new standard for combining the local building culture and history of the area with an ultramodern, sculptural architectural appearance.
The project allows access to one of Denmark’s archaeological gems, while offering and intricate spatial experience. Previously inaccessible, the visitor can enter and climb the main space of the tower, perceive the archaeological layers and view the landscape. Culture and nature, at a small and large scale, are united by this spiral access.

The vision behind the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Visitor Center is to educate, inspire, and motivate people through storytelling—sharing the work of others who are focused on improving the lives of people around the globe. Through interactive exhibits, visitors can investigate some of the challenges facing the world, learn how people are tackling those problems, and explore their own ideas and solutions to challenges that matter to them.
The building assignment, calling for a new element between “icons of 20th century architectural history,“ Mies Van Der Rohe’s Neuer National Gallery and Hans Scharoun’s Berlin Philharmonics among other listed buildings of high cultural and architectural significance, requires both a sensitive and strong architectural as well as urban intervention. To us, composition, clarity and austerity all coalesce to form an appropriate response, situated at the nexus of the urban fabric at Berlin’s Cultural Forum.
