THE IRRATIONAL CITY 2.0 by Paolo Cesaretti and Antonella Dedini is a five meters high light installation, situated at the entrance of the city of Venice. It is a site-specific work that intervenes within the perimeter of the Santa Lucia station, intended as the point of transition between the mainland and the Venetian lagoon.
This project is natural white freshwater shell mother of pearl with an iridescent shell in the centre and around the edges of each tile.
Freshwater mother of pearl is farmed responsibly by ShellShock Designs on the banks of the Poyang Lake, China’s largest freshwater lake. From here our skilled team of artisan farmers cultivate the Mother of Pearl producing up to 75,000 sq metres per year.
LOTUS 7.0 is a living wall made out of smart foils which fold open in response to human behavior. Walking by LOTUS, hundreds of aluminum foils unfold themselves in an organic way; generating transparent voids between private and public. Via LOTUS, physical walls are made immaterial, giving way to a poetic morphing of space and people.
