Workshop Building Landscheide in Schönengrund, Switzerland by kit

Thursday, December 13th, 2018

Article source: kit

The Landscheide workshop in Wald-Schoenengrund offers structured daytime workspaces to people with disabilities. For this purpose, the new building by kit | architects provides bright studio spaces, with the clever layout ensuring a protected environment that fosters independent work. The simple building structure offers a variety of spatial experiences and can be used flexibly. The walls have been deliberately left rough, and the wood and concrete ceilings underline the workshop character, while the inclusion of the surrounding nature creates a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

In 2013, kit | architects won the Landscheide Association’s selective competition and are now happy to announce that the workshop building has been completed and occupied.

Three Aspects of the Reconstruction Strategy for the Building of the Latvian National Museum of Art in Riga

Considering the unique architecture of the building, its representational importance and significant contribution to the cultural heritage, the proposed extension strategy is based on:

– retention of the existing building capacity and authentic details;

– need for renewal and extension of museum functions in the clearly expressed modern volume and subtle minimal design of the additional spaces;

Since a thousand years ago, Boshan has become a renowned town of ceramics and colored glaze. Touring around it, one can fully enjoy the beautiful landscape and fascinating culture. Article source: Miguel Montor arquitecto

After several years of being located in San Ángel, a neighborhood south of Mexico City, and after our first six years as an independent architecture firm, the opportunity to change our workshop’s location emerges.

Our needs regarding space and location began to change: that which began as a nearly individual studio began to shift gradually towards a collective space, where a team of several architects take part in our daily tasks.

Arts University Bournemouth Design Studios and Workshops in Poole, England by Design Engine

Article source: Design Engine

The AUB Design Workshops & Studios Conversions consist of the transformation of two former on-campus halls of residence, originally constructed in 2001, into modern studio and teaching space for Arts University Bournemouth’s internationally renowned higher education courses.

The success of the institution, and the wider changing demands of higher education, instigated a reappraisal of the Halls’ use as part of Design Engine’s 2009 vision for the future masterplan for the University.

Renovation of an Old Mill in Moselle, France by studiolada architectes

Monday, October 15th, 2018

Article source: studiolada architectes

This building, which had remained empty and abandoned for a long time, is located on a floodplain in a rather attractive area. Initially a mill, judiciously placed along a stream, it then became a small ironwork workshop, hence the presence of the large brick fireplace. Finally, it became a farm, where men and cattle coexisted.

We were confronted to a classic case of an old and poorly built farm, poorly maintained over the years, needing an important renovation with a “reasonable” budget.

Boat Hangar in Amsterdam, The Netherlands by BETA office for architecture and the city

Sunday, October 14th, 2018

Article source: BETA office for architecture and the city

Boat Hangar is a contemporary utilitarian building, both subtly referencing and sharply contrasting the rich context of the historic NDSM shipyard.

BETA was charged with designing a utilitarian structure on one of the few remaining plots on the NDSM heritage site. It is used for storage, seasonal maintenance and the construction of new yachts. In addition the building offers office space and is occasionally in use for location theatre and other cultural events at the NDSM shipyard. The challenge was to find a suitable architectural language which would do justice to brief and context whilst fitting in a competitive budget.
