“El Coso” Garden and Business Incubator in Murcia, Spain by Cómo Crear Historias

Tuesday, July 19th, 2016

Article source: Cómo Crear Historias

Known as “El Coso”, the place was a great void at the back of the old part Cehegín (Murcia, Spain). After a big snow storm in the 1950s, many of the houses of this neighborhood collapsed or were damaged, leaving that big, sloped empty space. Besides this, the old part of Cehegín seemed to lack inhabitable gardens. The city needs to breathe through them.

This residential building makes the most of a tiny space that enjoys a privileged location on a chamfered sidewalk street corner.

The public space takes the lead. The strong volumen of the building steps back on the corner to emphasize the main access.

Article source: Pinearq

The program’s density, the area of the plot of land and  the  allowed construction  requires to  resolve the project within a compact shape building that occupies the entire surface of the plot of land.

The proposal takes this location into account as a starting point, coming up with a compact volume, which, however, has been perforated by a series of patios where vegetation climbs high achieving a good quality space and well lit building.

The objectives for this project were: to create a specially designed space for the boarding area, where one can comfortably pass time before long-haul flights. The surface was broadened and as it grew, it was essential to reorganize the space with fluid and intuitive paths. As the restaurant is located next to the glass facade, it was necessary to créate an element which provided shade and played with the sunlight.
