Article source: as-built ARQUITECTURA

“THE ARCHITECT’S CABIN”
In this project we tried to build our “cabin” as a shelter capable of making us feel comfortable while we develop our work as architects. With this project, we tried to renovate a typical ground floor space in a building inside Ferrol’s 18th century’s historical center of. A narrow and elongated plot (5×16 m.), with a few sunlight hours.

Tuesday, January 27th, 2015

Article source: Arquitectes+Studio Ahedo

The design is carefully inserted into the urban fabric of the Tudelaold quarter. This area is signified by the Jewish, Muslim and Christian footprints. Yet, the surroundings are defined by themassive condition derived from its medieval heritage. The narrow and tortuous streets are characterized by the texturized rendered walls and the wood galleries.

Carles Rahola State Public Library in Girona, Spain by Mario Corea, Lluís Moran, Sebastián Guerrico

Tuesday, January 20th, 2015

Article source: Mario Corea, Lluís Moran, Sebastián Guerrico

The new library is located on a large rectangular plot in the center of Girona. Bounded on the north by busy Avenue Emili Grahit, the site is embedded in a dense and compact neighborhood of tall residential blocks. These urban conditions – plus the fact that this is the largest library in the network of public libraries in Catalunya – contributed to the development of a design strategy based on two main considerations.

Mountain Guest House in Barcelona, Spain by Dom – arquitectura

Thursday, January 15th, 2015

Article source: Dom – arquitectura

The existing volume could not be changed, so we adapt the guest house program to it.

First of all we covered with insulation and waterproofing the roof, and then we did the same with the facades and interior space.

The idea is to open the inside space to outside, so the users could be available to enjoy the large garden with views. The cover is extended with a new wicker pergola with iron structure, so we can increase the terrace space and visitors will be more in touch with the garden, the nature and the orchard.

FARM SURROUNDINGS in Catalonia, Spain by Arnau Vergés Tejero – Arnau Estudi d’Arquitectura

Thursday, January 15th, 2015

Article source: Arnau Vergés Tejero – Arnau Estudi d’Arquitectura

The internal refurbishing of a farm barn, so that a new generation of farmers can live there, grows to the point of becoming this zoning ordinance project. Such process will lead us to think about the set of huts, sheds, walls and paths which have settled in country houses through the years, and now we need to understand before we work on them, as there has been so little, maybe nothing, done in vain. A set of parts which have shaped the area, corners and tiny squares with the romantic essence of small towns.

House in Ávila, Spain by Claudia Olalla Gil

Wednesday, January 14th, 2015

Article source: Claudia Olalla Gil

Located at a high altitude (1200 meters above sea level), Las Navas del Marqués is characterized by cold winters and mild summers, which determine a low annual average temperature (10 ° C).

Taking advantage of the views of the valley of San Miguel coincident with the best orientation (south west), the house opens into the views and closes as much as possible to the north, avoiding energy losses.

CP House in Barcelona, Spain by Alventosa Morell Arquitectes

Friday, January 9th, 2015

Article source: Alventosa Morell Arquitectes

This building and warehouse have been designed and located on a plot of land  between two blocks of flats, which represent difficulties to get natural light, and also, a comfortable relationship with the surroundings. At first thought, the site was not suitably located. It is to say, the outdoor settings aren’t a welcoming zone, for a family house. Another negative outstanding point is the fact that this place is extremely noisy. It gets the maximum of decibels according to regulations.

2014 ISAF Sailing World Championship Facilities in Santander, Spain by AZPML

Wednesday, January 7th, 2015

Article source: AZPML

The project for the storage facilities of the High Performance National Sailing Centre, located in Santander, consists in consolidating the previous obsolete storage buildings for a single container over which we have planned a public rooftop. The project presents the problem of integrating in a limited space two activities that must be physically segregated, – i.e. private of use of the CEAR and public use of the canopy – while simultaneously creating a whole whose parts harmoniously coexist. Our proposal is to extend the public space above ground level, ensuring both storage and public space functions can be combined through an unconventional approach to public space design.

Tuesday, January 6th, 2015

Article source: NAN Arquitectos

The Project started with two difficulties. First of all, we faced with a small area, almost 50 square meters, it meant that we had to optimize the common areas in order to gain more operational area but we wanted to avoid also, small spaces. With this objective we took advantage using both facades to release the space.
