Comprising four high-rise towers with a multi-storey plinth and housing mixed-use programmes, large public spaces and incorporated subsidised housing, UNStudio’s design for the former Deutsche Bank site will create a ‘City for All’ in the heart of Frankfurt.

Following having been selected as the winner for the urban strategy of the former Deutsche Bank site in Frankfurt last year, UNStudio has now also been unanimously selected as the winner of the architectural competition for the redevelopment of the site. The eight-member jury consisted of representatives from the city, architects and urban development experts and Groß & Partner Grundstücksentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH. Two third prizes were awarded to the teams Dudler / Jahn and MSW / Snohetta, while an honorable mention was given to Christoph Mäckler / CoopHimmelblau.

The site of a former freight train depot in the Oberkassel district of Dusseldorf is being revitalised by the BelsenPark development and instilled with new life. Situated directly on bustling Belsenplatz, the BelsenPark office buildings of Belmundo and LaVista by sop architekten form the spatial entryway to the new district. The five-storey office and commercial buildings accommodate retail shops and restaurants with their ground floors, which can be accessed via a pedestrian street leading to the park. Plazas around the buildings are used as outdoor patios by the restaurants.

On a corner plot of the former Uhlan barracks in the Derendorf district of Dusseldorf stands the building ensemble Clara & Robert, by slapa oberholz pszczulny architekten, which links the two new buildings with the historical Saarhaus.

The Wilhelmine barracks, erected in 1890 and currently among the largest remaining barracks facilities in the Rhineland, were given new life through comprehensive renovation and expansion. The Clara & Robert office complex builds on the location’s architectural history, while the preservation of the expressive Saarhaus, which is being integrated into one of the new buildings, restores the link to the former barracks.

Design Hotel Hyatt Regency in Dusseldorf, Germany by slapa oberholz pszczulny I architekten

Sunday, March 12th, 2017

Article source: slapa oberholz pszczulny I architekten

Design Hotel Hyatt Regency stands at the tip of the harbour basin in Dusseldorf’s Media Harbour, one of the city’s architectural signposts. sop architekten realised its Hafenspitze master plan along Speditionstraße, which includes a pedestrian bridge, two glass towers, a pavilion and a seven-storey office building.

The 65-metre high double high-rise – with the hotel in the east building – expresses a strongly reduced formal language. The timeless, tension-filled architecture springs solely from the form of the buildings’ main bodies and their juxtaposition with one another. As a result, the two parallel high-rise slabs create a virtual cube, which develops a sculptural quality through its various sections and interstitial spaces.

Residential House Cologne Hahnwald in Köln, Germany by Corneille Uedingslohmann Architekten

Friday, February 17th, 2017

Article source: Corneille Uedingslohmann Architekten

The original planning brief foresaw an adaptation of the existing house, which was inhabited by the building owner at the time. The home owner’s driving aspiration for the project was the integration of a swimming pool with a visual relationship to the outside. After many design variations and the exhaustion of all building parameters it became clear this would not be feasible within the constraints of the old house. However the strong desire for a private swimming pool remained, leading the owner to the courageous decision to tear down the original house and build new in order to realize their ideas.
