Even from far away, the new sculpture in the office complex “die welle” draws attention to itself, inviting further exploration. It is an attraction that promotes the urban integration of the office complex within the adjacent inner city district.
The project remit was to redesign the external landscaped area in order to enhance the office complex “die welle“, located close to the Alte Oper in Frankfurt am Main. It was the name of the complex that sparked the initial idea for schneider+schumacher’s design. The architects decided to take this concept further and at the same time, to explore it in more depth: in the form of a three-dimensional wave that not only defines the space and attracts attention, but also creates an inviting place where people will want to be, therefore revitalizing the area. “When we see something onto which we can project our own images, experiences and memories, it conjures up associations and emotions. It awakens our interest”, explains Prof. Michael Schumacher, who, together with Till Schneider, runs the architectural practice schneider+schumacher.

Based in the old Knorr Braking Systems factory, Friedrichshain – a protected historical site, is one of three of the online retailer Zalando’s locations in Berlin, employing around 2000 people. Bruzkus Batek architects have designed and conceptualised a multi-use “fashion hub” at the site, including a modern, fully featured canteen and terrace onto the interior courtyard.
The architectural conception of the new construction of the head office of Mitsubishi Electric Europe is based on the target of connecting different departments both horizontally and vertically across a total of six floor levels.

“In a time of excess we have built a house that makes the essentials tangible,” says the client.
The house has become a place of retreat, a building that deliberately withdraws and allows the surrounding landscape to present itself to the full. Over the softly rushing waters of the stream, with a wide view into the green East-Westphalian landscape, the stress and hustle and bustle of everyday life is quickly forgotten.
Rather than settling for mass-market anonymity, BECYCLE focuses on nurturing its unique identity and providing personal customer service. The studio is a space for kindred spirits who share a healthy, urban lifestyle and have highly developed aesthetic expectations.

Cloud Cuckoo House in the Black Forest, Germany, sits at an altitude of 800m above sea level. When fog drifts into the valley, the home for a young family appears to float above the clouds, enjoying magical uninterrupted views across the fairytale landscape of the Upper-Rhine area.
A subtle dialogue between historical structure and current architectonic accents is being offered at the former Herding spinning mill in Bocholt. The industrial monument has been reinvented for use as a cultural centre. Warehouse for shows, special exhibition areas, event spaces and catering found place at the so called TextilWerk. “Reanimate and reinvent” were the maxims of ATELIER BRÜCKNER. By means of careful architectural surgery the original functional interrelationships of the factory were underlined. The language of form and colour are derived from the old building structure.
The building assignment, calling for a new element between “icons of 20th century architectural history,“ Mies Van Der Rohe’s Neuer National Gallery and Hans Scharoun’s Berlin Philharmonics among other listed buildings of high cultural and architectural significance, requires both a sensitive and strong architectural as well as urban intervention. To us, composition, clarity and austerity all coalesce to form an appropriate response, situated at the nexus of the urban fabric at Berlin’s Cultural Forum.
