Sparrenburg visitor centre in Bielefeld, Germany by Max Dudler

Thursday, January 8th, 2015

Article source: Max Dudler

Architect Max Dudler has designed a new visitor centre for the medieval Sparrenburg fortress in Bielefeld. The new building was opened on 17 September 2014 after a one-year planning and construction period. An info point for the nearby Johannisberg garden and park will follow at the end of the year, also based on plans by Max Dudler who won the 2013 competition for the realisation of both projects. The visitor centre has created a new spatial frame for the historical bailey. The material and expression represent a contemporary update of fortress architecture.

New building Drehmo Wenden in Germany by wurm + wurm architekten

Article source: wurm + wurm architekten

In Wenden, the southernmost town of the german region of Sauerland electro mechanical actuators for water management, the power plant sector and the oil and gas industry are manufactured.

The special cut of the new building of the Drehmo GmbH is owed the topographical situation in this region. The moving landscape caused the terracing of the landscape and produces irregularly shaped lot. The unusual floor plan, generated by this contour, and the hillside situation with a view over the valley determine the character and exceptional styling.

Following the end of commercial mining in Alsdorf, the centrally-located industrial premises of coal mine „Anna“ will be converted into an attractive residential and commercial area which will include the “Anna Park“.  As part of the development,  we created a design concept to convert the mine‘s blacksmith and change&washroom buildings into “Energeticon” –  an exhibition designed by Stuttgart-based “Atelier Brueckner” focussing on energy-related topics – not only showcasing the history of mining but also allowing visitors to experience basic principles of energy and learn about trendsetting and forward-looking technologies.

At the award ceremony of 2014 “Carl-Friedrich Fischer Prize for humane housing“, the head-end buildings of the Quarter of Nations have been awarded with one of the first prizes. The Hamburg housing project impressed the Jury, consisting of Christiane Ruth Hansmann (foundation director), Uli Hellweg (IBA Hamburg GmbH) and Professor Jörn Walter (Oberbaudirektor Hamburg), with its combination of a social housing building with a passive house. Out of 90 entered projects from the Hamburg urban area, in addition to the Quarter of Nations, the “Neue Hamburger Terrassen“ (LAN Architekten) and the “Gartenquartier Kleine Horst“ (SEHW Architekten) also received awards. The award, which was first made this year, aims to promote the intention of the former Regierungsbaumeister, Carl-Friedrich Fischer, to provide humane housing in the city and nearby.
