Schondorf on Lake Ammersee has become an attractive place to live due its location, its good infrastructure, the short distance to Munich and the airport. The Austrian architectural office AllesWirdGut starts the new year in a big way: AllesWirdGut were commissioned to build the corporate headquarters of the international WAZ Media Group—best known in Austria a the co-owner of the leading local tabloid “Kronenzeitung”—at their corporate home base in Essen, Germany.
The three-floor dwelling house is situated on the slope, edge of a forest on the outskirts of Heilbronn. It faces south and offers a sublime view to the surrounding area. A floating design and the use of natural materials using concrete, glass, copper and larch as structural material characterize the single family home. Besides the structural members that establish contact with the ground, the rest of the house is constructed out of wood.
The architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) have been awarded the contract to design the new Kunsthalle Mannheim. This was the decision made by the Kunsthalle‘s jury in Mannheim on Monday 3 December 2012. After three architect’s practices were awarded first place in a closed, anonymous competition back in July 2012, these practices were asked to revise their designs. The practices were gmp, Staab Architects and Peter Pütz Architects. Irrespective of the negotiation procedure, an exhibition started in October at which the public were able to familiarize themselves with the three winning entries.
The new school canteen of the Salmtal Secondary School in Germany was designed by SpreierTrenner Architekten (www.spreiertrenner.de) as a multifunctional building with the greatest possible flexibility. The space is used not only by children to eat every day, but also for special events such as music concerts, theatre plays or even Christmas fairs. This is why the main room was set out with a column-free square plan only subdivided by a mobile wall. The adjoining section at the rear contains all supporting facilities, such as a kitchen, storage space, toilets and staff facilities, etc. It has been set out with the option of extending it in the future.
Building project: Building a new, modern college seminar building for FOM Hochschule für Oekonomie & Management University of Applied Sciences gGmbH with approximately 1,400 student seats, office units, underground parking and a spacious, green campus.

An old cabaret theatre from the roaring ’20s has been uncovered in the heart of Berlin.
The semi-derelict music hall theatre, built in 1905 on Gartenstraße in Berlin Mitte, has been buried in 30 tonnes of rubble since 1934 when it closed, perhaps as part of a crackdown on the cabaret scene by the Nazi regime.

Located in Berlin Zehlendorf, the Truman Plaza parallels the adjacent Clayallee and is part of a larger master plan that balances its historical urban context with its integration of a delicate onsite forest. The project constitutes offices, retail, health and sports facilities, which together form an urban setting situated around a central plaza within this leafy borough on the edge of Berlin.

The Design Research Exchange (DRX) is a non-profit residency program for researchers hosted by HENN. The DRX, initiated by Moritz Fleischmann (HENN Research Director) and Martin Henn (HENN Design Director), provides an open platform to unite experts from various fields. By exploring architectural topics of shared interest, the DRX promotes a multi-disciplinary discussion between academics and professionals.
The pavilion’s dramatic planar form articulates an assured, yet subtle compression of space, framing views of the lake and the local topography. The building’s tectonic rigour is palpable, its seemingly gravity defying configuration enabling the floor plate and ceiling to cantilever some 6m beyond the lakeshore.
