Viola Communications Office in Abu Dhabi, UAE by M+N Architecture

Friday, May 1st, 2015

Article source: M+N Architecture

The project is about the interior fit-out of the new headquarters of the well-known company Viola Communications in twofour54, the media free zone of Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates. It can be considered the first innovative and conceptual office design in the emirate, where the classic scheme of the typical workplace is re-invented and the traditional arrangement of the office functions into “rooms and corridors” is replaced by a fluid, informal and interactive space. In this innovative design, relationships between users are set to be a priority and an accomplishing remarkable success to the challenge of mixing the local taste with modern interpretation.

The Abu Dhabi Commercial and Cultural Expo Center by Michael Arellanes II

Friday, January 2nd, 2015

Article source: Michael Arellanes II

The method and means of tectonic principles that govern the dispersion of mass and surface in the project proposal are subject to folding and overlapping of curved tectonic bodies. These tectonic and massing arrangements are intended to create paths of intersection and to architecturally express a forward movement projected toward the sea. The architectural formation is governed by articulation of space for the purpose of international expositions and cultural showcases. Retail and entertainment are also integrated as part of the seascape dynamic Expo Center. As the multi-massed complex is a dispersion of activates ranging from shopping, dining, expositions, and yacht clubs, it transforms the edge of Abu Dhabi into an iconic sea formation. Iconic architectural expressions within the proposal are articulated in the sail composition of being in flight at the precipice of the sea. The flowing sail architectural node within the complex becomes the epicenter of the showcase functions while enhancing the viewing, dining, and entertainment experience.

Al Hilal Bank Tower in Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi by Goettsch Partners

Thursday, September 25th, 2014

Article source: Goettsch Partners

The Al Hilal Bank Tower project was an exceptional design opportunity on a highly visible and distinguished site on Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi. Goettsch Partners developed a design solution that offered a unique form derived from a combination of site and contextual influences. The building varies in its massing and aesthetic in order to provide a unique and distinguished building for the site. The building derives its massing from a push and pull effect at the outer corners to achieve a unique form. The building’s skin changes at the “void” locations to accentuate the shifting aesthetic. The tower itself is a value driven class A office building composed of efficient lease spans and column free interior floor plates. The Al Hilal Bank Tower incorporates a distinguished design that will set the standard for the island.

To include the building complex very naturally into the environment, it is placed on different landscape levels. The use of typical colours and patterns does not only help to fit the complex into the natural landscape, it also refers to the already existing UPC building.

One of several unique buildings specified as part of masterplan concept for Dubai, The Opus comprises two structures, conceived as a single cube eroded by a free-form void, which appears to ‘hover’ above ground-level.
