Situated on the northern side of S.Miguel Island, the plot has an open view over the sorrounding fields and woods.
The client expressed a desire of openness and harmony with nature, and very little concerns about how he would like the interior of the house, except from the wish of including memories of old travels through some objects.
“Poça da Dona Beija” reconfiguration have improved the security conditions and the preservation of the complexity of this natural resources. “Dona Beija” has been one of most popular places in São Miguel’s Island, Azores, in last few years.
For this reason, some of its existent materials weren’t adequate for the enormous affluence and has become necessary to replace its whole walkway pavement with local wooden deck panels – japanese cedar or cryptomeria locally called.
The project intends to evoke the architectural landscape of the Azores, drawing upon the form and material that embed the collective memory of this island and archipelago, that have become, with time, a second nature of this place. Therefore, the buildings are archetypal volumes, simple and compact, clad with the local basaltic stone.

Nowadays, more and more, collective equipments have been sustainably planned to respond the needs of a constant urban growing. So that, Maia village, on the north Shore of S.Miguel Island, has asked to plan a kindergarten for the wish and requirement of their inhabitants.
